     LIFEGUARD NO DISTRACTING DUTIES

     The lifeguard was performing distracting duties by being on phone. When discussing this with the lifeguard, the individual stated that he was on break and breaks are required. The pool was only staffed with 2 lifeguards and the lifeguard was in a position where the other lifeguard was unable to watch while he was on break. Additionally, the pool had 10 swimmers and bulkhead dividing the swimmers at the time of the inspection. At least 2 lifeguards were needed, even when a guard takes a break.

     Correction: Do not assign duties to lifeguards that would distract from lifeguarding responsibilities. The Rec Director will email the lifeguard staffing plan to bsimerly@nshealthdept.org. Further discussion is needed regarding life guard staffing. Educational moment.
