Sawyer County Airport Management Report
September 2026
(Provided by Airport Manager Derek Leslie)
-August was busier this year than it was last year. Maybe it was because people didn’t come up as much
the week of smoke in July.
-The Young Eagles flights at the airport was a wild success this year. Several hundred people involved, a
record setting number of rides were given.
- No new news on the Master Plan and ALP update.
-No new news on the snow removal equipment.
-Grass mowing obviously was down this year over last. We took advantage of the dry spell and were
able to brush out some of the areas with our own equipment that typically can only ever be cleared
when it is frozen. One area in particular is the drainage ditch along side of the runway. In my life time
that ditch has never been cleared in the summer months and has claimed the pride of many operators
and their equipment getting stuck over the years. A little humor and a lot of happiness because I am
typically the one who’s always daisy chaining straps and chains together.
-The fall WAMA conference is coming up in October. This year its being held in the Dells. October 26-
28th.
-FBO sales have remained in line with the last few years average. Possibly slightly above, hopefully sales
remain strong heading into fall.
