Charter Steel is a member of the Charter Manufacturing group of companies, which also includes Charter Wire, Charter Casting, and Niles Iron & Metal. Charter Mfg. is a fourth generation Wisconsin family-owned company. Charter Steel was founded on the premise that the customer is the key ingredient in the steelmaking process. We melt, roll, and process steel, but at our core Charter Steel is a service business committed to continuously investing in the people, communities, and technologies that add value to our customers' products. We are a comprehensive steel producer – from green rod to fully processed steel that provides consistent, high-quality steel, delivered on-time to customers in critically important industries. Charter Steel is Wisconsin’s single largest consumer of recycled material. We produce more than one million tons of steel annually from 90% or greater recycled materials by leveraging Electric Arc Furnace melt technology coupled with expert rolling capabilities at both our Saukville, Wisconsin and Cleveland, Ohio locations. Distribution and processing facilities are located in Saukville and Fostoria, Ohio. Charter Steel is a leading producer of cold-heading quality steels serving vehicular markets and the largest coil processor in North America. Charter invests heavily in additional growth and related infrastructure. Charter’s Saukville Plant is served by Wisconsin & Southern Railroad from its Plymouth Subdivision. Wisconsin & Southern Railroad (WSOR) Wisconsin & Southern Railroad, a Watco company, provides regional rail service to businesses throughout the southern half of Wisconsin and northern Illinois. The WSOR connects the state with the following Class I railroads: • Burlington Northern Santa Fe • Canadian National • Canadian Pacific • Union Pacific • CSX via Chicago • Norfolk Southern via Chicago. The WSOR operates on former Milwaukee Road and Chicago & Northwestern tracks that were earmarked for abandonment in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Today, as Wisconsin’s second-largest railroad, the WSOR operates more than 600 miles of track owned cooperatively by the State of Wisconsin and 19 Southern Wisconsin counties. The WSOR has a long-term operating agreement with the counties to provide regional rail service on publicly owned rail infrastructure. Safety Guests may be on an active railway and around rail equipment and will be inside a steel production facility. We advise wearing work boots. If a guest does not have boots, please wear comfortable shoes. No open- toe shoes, high heels, shorts, or skirts are permitted on the tour. All other personal protective equipment will be provided.
