CITY OF LAKE GENEVA FIRE
DEPARTMENT JULY 2026 ACTIVITIES REPORT
1
Department & Community Events
On July 1, the department conducted water rescue
training with the Water Safety Patrol and practiced
patient removal from boats, as well as patient
handoffs to ambulance crews.
On July 16
th, the department was invited to the Lake Geneva Youth Camp to help their campers be
a little “cooler”.
On July 16
th, the department announced the implementation of
Prehospital Ultrasound as part of our advanced cardiac arrest care.
This handheld imaging technology allows our paramedics to
perform focused heart scans during resuscitation, helping them
quickly assess cardiac activity and identify certain reversible causes
of cardiac arrest.
By adding ultrasound to our existing protocols, our crews can better
tailor treatments, confirm the effectiveness of chest compressions,
and support real-time decision-making before and during transport.
While this technology does not replace high-quality CPR and early
defibrillation, it enhances them by giving providers a clearer picture
of what is happening inside the chest when every second counts.
Our team has undergone specialized training to safely integrate ultrasound into cardiac arrest care
while maintaining uninterrupted, high-quality chest compressions. We would like to extend a
sincere thank you to Mercyhealth Systems for their partnership, training support, and assistance in
bringing this cutting edge technology to our community. Their collaboration has been essential in
preparing our providers to use prehospital ultrasound safely and effectively for cardiac arrest
patients.
This investment reflects our ongoing commitment to bringing hospital-grade tools to the prehospital
environment and improving outcomes for patients in Lake Geneva and the surrounding
communities. We are grateful for the continued support of our city leaders, and community
members as we implement this innovative technology in the field.

DEPARTMENT JULY 2026 ACTIVITIES REPORT
2
Less than 24 hours after announcing the implementation of prehospital ultrasound, our crews
successfully utilized the tool during a cardiac arrest response and it supported a successful
resuscitation. This is a great example of how training, technology, and teamwork come together to
improve patient care. Prehospital ultrasound is designed to help crews assess cardiac activity and
support resuscitation decisions in real time.
We are proud of the professionalism and quick adoption shown by our team, and we will continue
building on this capability to serve our community at the highest level.
July 27
th, Engine 281 responded to rescue a one-week-old
kitten that had become trapped inside the HVAC system
beneath a home.
After a careful and patient rescue, the crew safely freed the tiny
kitten, named Slate.
We’re happy to report Slate is safe and back with his family.

COUNTIES, 2 STATES
At the onset of the storm on July 3, 2026, the department was requested to assist the Village of
Walworth with a grain bin rescue. Due to the severity of the weather and the need to assess
conditions within our own jurisdiction, we made the decision to decline the request at that time.
Shortly thereafter, we were dispatched to a possible structure fire, immediately followed by a water
rescue near Big Foot Beach for a report of approximately 10 individuals in the water following a
capsized boat, with three initially reported missing.
Due to the high volume and severity of incidents in the
City of Lake Geneva and surrounding jurisdictions, we
activated the MABAS Disaster Box Alarm. This
response brought more than 50 departments and
agencies from Walworth, Jefferson, Kenosha, Racine,
Rock, Waukesha, and Milwaukee Counties in
Wisconsin, as well as Lake, McHenry, and Boone
Counties in Illinois. Many of these resources were
strategically deployed throughout our response area to
ensure rapid response to additional calls, conduct damage assessments, and identify unreported
hazards such as downed power lines, structural damage from fallen
trees, and gas leaks. Remaining units were staged and ready to
respond as needed, including assisting neighboring fire departments.
This coordinated response allowed us to maintain uninterrupted
service to our community. Between 12:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., the
department responded to 85 calls for service, including a dive rescue,
two incidents involving trees on vehicles
with entrapment, one individual trapped
under a fallen tree, four ambulance requests, one gas emergency, one fire
alarm activation, and 37 calls involving downed wires or electrical
hazards.
Without the assistance of our mutual aid partners, it would not have been
possible to deliver the level of service our community expects during an
incident of this magnitude. We also want to express our heartfelt
appreciation to our public safety partners who stand with us in service to
this community. To our law enforcement agencies, our dedicated telecommunicators, and our
hardworking public works teams—thank you for your continual support, quiet sacrifices, and
unwavering commitment to keeping our community safe and functioning every day. Your
partnership means a great deal to us, and we are proud to work alongside you.

CITY OF LAKE GENEVA FIRE
DEPARTMENT JULY 2026 ACTIVITIES REPORT
5
The City of Lake Geneva Fire Department responded
to a residential structure fire on Sunday evening, July
5, 2026, at 9:31 p.m. at 1155 Rolling Lane in the City
of Lake Geneva.
Initial dispatch was for a reported grill fire. While
units were en route, the Lake Geneva Police
Department Communications Center advised that the
incident had escalated to a structure fire. Automatic
aid was immediately requested from the City of
Elkhorn Fire Department, Lyons Fire Department,
Town of Delavan Fire Department, and the City of
Delavan Fire Department.
Lake Geneva Fire Department units arrived on scene within six minutes and reported a well-
involved fire with heavy fire conditions on the rear of a two-story, single-family residential
dwelling. Due to the extent of the fire, the response was elevated to a MABAS Box Alarm, bringing
additional resources from the Williams Bay Fire Department, Randall Fire Department, East Troy
Fire Department, City of Burlington Fire Department, Bloomfield-Genoa City Fire Department, and
the Lake Geneva Fire Bells. Station coverage for the City of Lake Geneva was provided by the City
of Whitewater, Hebron, Rochester, and Sharon Fire Departments. Fire crews initiated an aggressive
interior and exterior fire attack upon arrival. The fire was declared out at approximately 10:17 p.m.
Crews remained on scene until approximately 1:00 a.m. conducting salvage and recovery efforts
with the homeowner.
The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. No
civilian injuries were reported.
Fire Chief John Peters reminds residents
of the importance of safe grilling
practices. Grills should be kept clean and
maintained regularly, operated on a non-
combustible surface, and positioned at
least 10 feet away from structures or
combustible materials. Grills should never
be left unattended while in use, and
homeowners are encouraged to keep a fire
extinguisher in their grilling kit or immediately accessible while grilling.

The City of Lake Geneva Fire Department extends our deepest condolences to the families
affected by the July 3rd storms. While we mourn the loss of life and the damage to property, we
are humbled by the strength of our community—neighbors supporting one another, volunteers
stepping forward, and the compassion shown to friends, neighbors, and strangers during this
difficult time.
