MINUTES OF THE JUNEAU PUBLIC LIBRARY Wednesday, August 12, 2026 Eileen Gratton called the meeting to order at 5:04 PM. Trustees present were Eileen Gratton, Jean Haan, Jenifer Hirschfeld, Wendy Jo Smedema, and Dodgeland School representative Christina Rollins. Library Director Connie Schuett was also in attendance. Absent: Brittany Binder, Rosemary Smanz, and Council Liaison Michael Cypert Public Comment: none Agenda: A motion to approve the agenda was made by Wj Smedema and seconded by J Hirschfeld. Motion carried. Minutes: A motion to approve the minutes of the July 8, 2026 meeting was made by E Gratton and seconded by J Haan. Motion carried. Financial Reports: -A motion to approve payment of bills from July 4 - August 5, 2026, was made by J Haan and seconded by Wj Smedema. Motion carried. -The treasurer’s report for July 31, 2026 was shared as was the City’s 2026 year-to-date budget report. Director’s Report: -Shared that she has contacted both the Master Gardeners and Dodgeland FFA for guidance on the Pollinator Garden -New janitor has started position and staff opening for Page position has been posted -Shared circulation and program stats, including that 211 individuals had signed up for Summer Reading Program, an increase from 2025 -Shared August program calendar Unfinished Business: -Received grant from GWCHF for WiLS Strategic Planning -Discussed Grounds Maintenance. K&B are currently working on a fall “Weed and Feed” for the lawn. A motion was made by J Haan and seconded by E Gratton to have K & B Lawncare complete a “Fall Clean - Up” of the grounds for the amount of $1500. Motion carried. New Business: -Reviewed the 2026 Budget and discussed possible amendments. -A motion was made by J Hirshfeld and seconded by J Haan to approve a 3 % staff wage increase effective with the first pay period of 2027. Motion carried. -A motion was made by J Haan and seconded by J Hirshfeld to approve the 2027 proposed budget. Motion carried. -Discussed possible Capital Funds requests, including replacing second boiler and landscaping issues. Schuett will share proposals with City. Board Planning: The next meeting of the Juneau Library Board of Trustees is Wed., September 9, 2026, at 5:00 pm. A motion to adjourn at 5:36 pm was made by E Gratton and seconded by J Hirshfeld.
