Housing Opportunities Commission Minutes May 13, 2026 Call to Order at 5:15pm Roll Call Commissioners present: Erin Hanson, Jessica Schoen, Christina Thrun, Tina Thiesan, Brooke Peterson, Todd Schwartz, Laura Lash Commissioners absent: Angie Stokes, Madison Buechner Staff present: Billie Hufford, Jessica Oleson-Bue, Cortney Sperber Welcome and Introductions of New Member – Commissioners and staff did introductions Election of Officers – Commissioner Thrun nominated for Chair, Commissioner Peterson nominated for Vice-Chair, Motion to approve made by Commissioner Schwartz, seconded by Commissioner Hanson, passed unanimously Approval of meeting minutes of April 8, 2026 – motion to approve made by Commissioner Hanson, seconded by Commissioner Schoen, passed unanimously Open Public Comment Period – No one came forward with comment Public Hearings – None Business Agenda items Housing Funding Programs – Training Session Planning (30 min) Hufford and Thrun discussed current steps in planning. Discussed potential timeframes for session, July, early August, or October. Hufford will follow up with speakers. Plan to finalize date at June meeting and start planning for marketing session. Housing Data Discussion Hufford shared various housing/income data. Thrun shared data from annual report and current YTD information on permits. Questions about how housing needs are determined. Discussed various potential housing policy recommendations at a high level. Discussed vacancy rates. Hufford will add vacancy rate to data reports. Discussed gaps in home ownership education. Potentially fall session. Will further discuss at next meeting. Thrun will create an outline. Staff updates (10 min) Housing Projects Update Hufford shared Paragon and excess land process. Discussion and Direction Future Agenda Items Finalize date for housing funding program, discuss home ownership session, commission review. Announcements Next meeting: June 10, 2026 Thrun shared JONAH housing panel May 14th. Thrun shared legislative updates. Hufford shared CC We Adapt peer support conference.
