DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION ON THE FOLLOWING:
A. Water main break on W. Highland Drive and N. Main Street.
Utility Manger Kuhn briefed the Council and Commission in regards to the water main break at
the intersection of W. Highland Drive and N. Main Street. The utility department worked most
of last week to locate and repair the break. Kuhn presented options and asked if money should
be spend to do major repairs now since the area is still open; or if it should just be capped off for
now with the knowledge that major repairs will need to be done sometime in the next few years
when Highland Drive is redone. Vendors were not solicited for quotes, but a vendor did present
general figures for repair. If major repairs were done it would cost approximately $225,000;
whereas capping it off would be approximately $35,000.
MOTION: McDermid / Holman
Motion to proceed with capping the intersection at W. Highland Drive and N. Main
Street.
Continued discussion…
It was felt that Utility Commission should make the motion as this matter would fall under
general maintenance and Council need not vote.
