Police Chief Douglas requested approval to start a current recruit in November 2026, approximately eight weeks before their Police Academy start date. The recruit has successfully completed psychiatric and medical background checks and has been provided a conditional offer of employment. Douglas plans to use the eight weeks in question to start the recruit’s official employee orientation, field training, ride-alongs, and log observation hours. The proposal is a deviation from past department processes but has become an industry standard of late.
