Town of Wheaton Parks Commission Meeting Minutes Tuesday, January 28, 2025 Wheaton Town Hall at 7 p.m. 4975 County Hwy T Chippewa Falls, WI 54729 1. Affidavit of Notice of Meeting per Wisconsin Statute 19.84 2. Ken Books called the meeting to order at 7 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence. 3. Roll Call: Becky McInnis, Jenny Schutte, Ken Books, and Mark Kohls Public present: None 4. Consent Agenda: Approval of Agenda, Approval of November Meeting Minutes, and next Wheaton Parks Commission Meeting Date: Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at Wheaton Town Hall. Jenny moved to approve the consent agenda and minutes; Seconded by Becky. Motion passed on a unanimous voice vote. 5. Public Comments: None 6. Old Business a. Review/Discuss/Act on Park Donations ● 5 new brick donations were received since the last meeting. b. Review/Discuss/Act on Park Maintenance ● Ken updated the maintenance list with who is responsible for some projects and dates. Mark requested additional dirt be added along the Longview field sidewalk. c. Review/Discuss/Act on Adding Frisbee Disc Golf Course to Wheaton Park ● No new information to discuss. Deferred to February meeting. 7. New Business a. Review/Discuss/Act on Baseball Sculpture part of Visit Eau Claire Sculpture Tour ● The baseball sculpture has been at the park for 2 years. We are now able to purchase the sculpture if desired for $25,000 lump sum or $2,000 lease fee per year. Becky made a motion not to proceed forward with purchasing or leasing the baseball sculpture and have Visit Eau Claire pick up the sculpture in April; Seconded by Jenny. Motion passed on a unanimous voice vote. b. Review/Discuss/Act on American Trails - Trails Capacity Grant Program ● American Trails – Trails Capacity Grant program is a program that funds projects across the nation that strategically improve the abilities and capacity of the trails community. ● Municipalities can utilize the grant program to assist with trail maintenance and expansion. ● Visit Eau Claire provided the grant information, answers to questions, and that grant has submission due date of January 31, 2025. ● Jenny made a motion to work and submit American Trails grant application for spraying trails and addressing maintenance; Seconded by Mark. Motion passed on a unanimous voice vote. The commission worked on the grant application and will obtain letters of support to attach to it. Ken will get updated spraying costs for the grant application. 8. Set Potential Agenda Items for Next Meeting ● Park Donations, Park Maintenance, and Adding Frisbee Disc Golf Course to Wheaton Park. 9. Adjournment - Becky moved to adjourn the meeting; Seconded by Mark. Motion passed on a unanimous voice vote. Meeting adjourned at 8:28 P.M.
