Town of Brussels Board Meeting Minutes Wednesday, July 9, 2025 6:30pm Present: Chairman, Joe Wautier; Supervisors, Mark Marchant and Austin Vandertie; Treasurer, Penny Wautier; and Clerk, Sherri Dantoin The meeting was called to order at 6:30pm at the Brussels Community Center by Chairman, Joe Wautier. He’s looking for a centrally located, accessible space and hopes to use it rent-free, though he’s open to making a donation. Classes would be held on Monday or Tuesday evenings to avoid conflicts and would be flexible in case of paid rentals. This will be added to the August 18 meeting agenda as an action item. Quarry Permit Representatives were present to answer questions about the quarry requests. The Board asked that neighbors continue to receive proper notice before any blasting, which has been well handled so far. Michels confirmed no current activity is planned at their reserve pit. No changes from previous permit applications. Motion Marchant/Vandertie unanimously carried by voice vote to renew Michels/Nebel quarry permits B.U.G Fire Department Motion Marchant/Vandertie unanimously carried by voice vote to approve sale of 1995 Freightliner Tender New fire truck has been received. $19,500 was budgeted in anticipation of this cost-sharing purchase. Motion Vandertie/Marchant unanimously carried by voice vote to approve the contribution request of $10,585 toward purchase of new truck A resolution opposing the proposed $44,435 EMS subscription fee by Door County was discussed. This weekend will be busy at the park with Belgian Days. Joel Daoust is making a copy of the bathroom plans to be displayed this weekend to share the upgrade. Community Center Joe Wautier received internet quotes from Broadband, StarLink, and is awaiting one from T-Mobile (expected to be most affordable, effective in September). A 5G plan should be adequate. If internet is installed, DoorSecurity could use it for emergency alerts and the landline ($77/mth) could be discontinued. Motion Marchant/Vandertie unanimously carried by voice vote to approve the addition of internet to the Community Center, with either Broadband or T-Mobile, whichever is more cost effective Consideration of Increasing Fees The Board proposed simplified, updated rates reflecting new amenities like internet and bathroom upgrades. Effective Jan 1, 2026 (current bookings grandfathered): • Community Center: $200 (residents), $250 (non-residents) • Park Pavilion: $125 (residents), $150 (non-residents) • Security deposit remains unchanged Motion Marchant/Vandertie unanimously carried by voice vote to approve the change in rental fees to that as stated above, effective for January 1, 2026. Quarry permit fees will be added to next month’s agenda, with more investigation pending Website Upgrade The website was originally created to provide basic information, such as contact details for board members, and currently costs $25 per year. However, the current agent believes the community has outgrown this basic setup, and many have expressed support for an upgrade. The goal is to create a secure, user-friendly site with easy access to meeting minutes, community news, public notices, forms, and event calendars—including rentals for the Community Center and Pavilion. TownWeb, commonly used in Door County, has been selected as the provider. If approved, planning and content updates would occur in July–September, migration in October– November, a soft launch in December, and a formal launch on January 1.
