The regular monthly meeting of the Town of Rantoul was called to order at 7: 00pm at the Village Hall of Potter by
Chairman Mertz. He verified that meeting notices were posted on July3, 2024.
The Town Board viewed the most recent sales listing, and Calumet County permit activity.
Motion by Eickert , second by Jannetteto approve the June 2024minutes as printed ;motion carried by voice vote .
Motion by Jannette, second by Eickert to accept the Treasurer’s report, after bills,of Checking account balance of
$13,185.30, Money Market account balance of $ 163,406.38 and Tax Collection Account of $10.84 for a total of
$176,602.52;motion carried by voice vote.
Brian Glaeser from the Calumet County Highway Department was present to discuss concerns with the Town’s
Bridge Aid application .Mr. Glaeser took over Bridge Aid after their secretary retired last year. An engineer is now
being required to sign off on any culverts being replaced if the county is not completing the work, regardless if the
culvert size is remaining the same which has not been required, or upheld in previous years. If the county does the
work, an engineer is not needed. Mr. Glaeser also discussed DNR permitting for these projects. An estimate for the
culvert to be replaced by the Calumet County Highway Department in the amount of $17,642.68 was presented. The
original estimate if done by the Town of Rantoul was $9,000 , which did not include engineering costs. Copies of the
county’s proposal and the original Bridge Aid paperwork follows. Motion by Eickert, second by Jannette to table this
issue and have Mark research engineering costs and DNR requirements; motion carried by voice vote.
A discussion took place regarding a culvert located at the end of Propson’s driveway on West River Road that is
failing. It is currently a 30” culvert, and Roads Supervisor Wunrow recommends increasing that to a 36” squash
culvert. The pipe plus end pan on entrance would cost approximately $ 2,700 to replace. Concerns were voiced that if
the Town financed, or partially financed this driveway culvert replacement project, this would set a precedence for
future occurrences, and driveway culverts are the responsibility of the property owner to maintain. Motion by
Jannette, second by Eickert to not have the Town of Rantoul replace the Propson driveway culvert as it falls under the
property owner’s responsibility for maintenance; motion carried by voice vote.
For the 202 4 Roadwork Report, Roads Maintenance Supervisor Wunrow shared that MCC has completed the Irish
Road Project.
The WTA County Unit meeting will take place on July 18
th , at the Town of Woodville . Chairman Mertz, Supervisor
Eickert, and Supervisor Jannette plan to attend.
Trinity Lutheran Church is having both of their parking lots on either side of the road redone, and Roads Supervisor
Wunrow advised that it would be a good time to begin sealcoating West River Rd, which would need to be done in
the near future anyway. The sealcoating would be from County Road Y to past the work being done by Trinity. A
quote from Scott Construction in the amount of $14,879 was presented. Motion by Eickert, second by Jannette to
move ahead with the sealcoating on West River Rd from County Y to just past Trinity Lutheran Rantoul for $14,879;
motion carried by voice vote.
