VII. Open Issues
a) Recycling Information – Kathy Linville, Republic Service
Kathy Linville of Republic Services was not present. This item was tabled pending her availability.
b) Collection Site and Recycling Center
The Board discussed options for managing increasing usage of the town's collection site and recycling center, particularly by
non-residents. Options discussed included a resident sticker program with differential pricing and a flat -rate increase for all
users. Concerns were raised about the practicality of policing a sticker program and the administrative burden it would create
for the site attendant. The Board acknowledged that service rates had recently increased and agreed that some form of rate
adjustment is warranted. No formal action was taken; the item was tabled for further review and additional information.
c) Library Programs & Activities
Shelly Knacck, Library Director provided updates on upcoming events, including a book sale, silent auction, and raffle on the
Saturday following the meeting (9 AM–noon), Fire Truck Story Time on July 29th, and a kids' movie on July 30th. The
representative also noted that the maintenance committee had completed several cost-saving repairs, including fixing an
elevator button that avoided an $850 service call. A new front security camera is being installed. Library attendance has
increased due to hot weather and air quality concerns.
d) Alcohol Beverage License Application 8-1-26 to 6-30-27
The Board reviewed a license application from Gateway Express, doing business as Stateline Restaurant and Bar, for the period
of August 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027. It was noted the establishment had been closed due to a pipe burst but is actively
undergoing remediation and intends to reopen. The Board discussed the local ordinance requiring a minimum of 30 days of
operation per year and confirmed it has discretion over license renewal. The Board approved the application.

August 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027 was made by K. Konnow and seconded by S. Otterpohl . The motion carried

VIII. New Business
a) Fireworks Committee
The Board discussed the formation of a volunteer Fireworks Committee to assist with organizing and managing the annual
fireworks event, citing increasing costs, insurance, and product availability challenges. It was clarified that committee mem bers
would not be compensated and would not hold decision-making authority. The Board expressed support for the concept and
requested that an outline of the proposed committee structure and interested participants be presented at the next meeting.
b) Resolution 2026-04 To Make Final Improvements to Jute Lake Rd
Clerk/Treasurer Jolin reported that final improvements to Jute Lake Road — including grading, sloping, fertilizing, and
seeding of shoulders — were completed in the spring at a cost of $9,100. A resolution was presented to submit a
reimbursement request to the DNR, consistent with the funding process used for the earlier phase of the project.
Motion to approve Resolution 2026-04 authorizing the final improvement reimbursement request to the DNR for Jute
Lake Road was made by K. Konnow and second by S. Otterpohl. The motion carried unanimously.
c) Road Work Old B and Indian Lake Rd
The Board discussed a request from a property owner on the back side of the Old B corridor regarding road improvements to
Old B and Indian Lake Road. It was noted that the road receives significant use, including by logging trucks, which causes
recurring damage. The Board discussed the possibility of DNR land involvement and whether logging operators could be
subject to road restoration requirements through the county permitting process. Additionally, a representative reported that
permission had recently been obtained from a property owner on the south side of the corridor to establish a snowmobile trail,
with a grant application planned to fund the work — estimated as a two-year process. No formal action was taken on road
improvements; the matter remains under review.
d) Next Meeting Date and Agenda Items for the Town Board – Wed. August 19, 2026 at
6pm
The next regular Town Board Meeting was confirmed for Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 6:00 PM.
IX. Public Input – Limited to Items on the Agenda
A member of the public requested clarification on the date range of the alcohol beverage license. Clerk/Treasurer Jolin
explained that all licenses run from July 1 through June 30, and that the August start date reflected the applicant's delayed
submission. Jolin further noted that the Board has discretion to renew the license given the circumstances of the closure.
Regarding fireworks funding, it was noted that the Town contributes $10,000 through room tax as a deposit, with total
fireworks costs running approximately $43,000, the remainder covered by business and individual donations totaling
approximately $33,000.
