Waupaca Recreation Center Expansion
Construction Begins Summer 2025
The City of Waupaca is expanding the Waupaca Recreation Center to better serve the community’s needs for recreation,
digital access, and career development. Fully funded by the Wisconsin Department of Administration’s Flexible Facilities
Program, this project will increase gym capacity and improve public access to digital services that enable work, education, and
healthcare monitoring. The renovation will include a 150% expansion of the Blue Gym and result in the creation of a Business
Service Center. The City of Waupaca’s Economic Development Strategy (published 2021) highlighted the need for publicly
accessible spaces equipped with high-speed internet and digital tools to support remote workers, microbusinesses,
freelancers, and job seekers. To meet this need, the Business Service Center will be outfitted with co-working space,
multi-purpose classrooms, telehealth rooms, and a recording studio for digital content creation. In parallel, Parks and
Recreation staff have recognized that the Recreation Center is often times over capacity, with patrons competing for limited
gym space. Increased gymnasium space will accommodate more youth and adult leagues, open gym sessions, and rental
opportunities for local organizations and events. The City of Waupaca is pleased to bring this project forward without the use
of City tax dollars.
