Minutes

The Berlin Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order on April 8, 2026, at 4:30 pm by President Kay Roethel. In attendance were Trustees Draves, Durtschi, Malchetske, and Rainboth. Secretary Margaret Guertler and Trustee Carrie Blazel were excused. Director Chris Kalupa was also in attendance. Moved by Rainboth, seconded by Durtschi to approve the minutes of the March meeting. Passed. Moved by Malchetske, seconded by Durtschi to accept the monthly bills for March. Passed. Moved by Durtschil, seconded by Rainboth to accept the Treasurer’s report for March. Passed. CD #735906 will be renewed at Farmers and Merchants Bank at 3.5% for 23 months. Library Director’s report: complete copy attached to official minutes. Moved by Rainboth, seconded by Draves to approve the minutes of the Policy Committee meeting. Passed. The Finance Committee reported they will be placing checks in the library safe that can be accessed by other officers if necessary. The President and Secretary can sign checks and access account information if the Treasurer is not able to do so. Treasurer Malchetske is working on a standard operating procedures document outlining the duties of the treasurer. Trustee Draves reported on activities of the Friends of the Library: successful March book sale, upcoming fundraiser at Berlin Farmers Market on June 30 , a kick-off to summer reading to be held at Riverside Park on June 8, and a children’s book sale during the month of June. President Kay Roethel appointed Draves and Rainboth as the Nominating Committee. Business for future agenda: WCTS painting, carpeting, Kay Swan/Kay Roethel door panel designs, library signage, Carnegie grant. Meeting adjourned by Roethel at 5:20 pm.
