Town Board — Minutes

1 REGULAR BOARD MEETING MINUTES DATE: August 12, 2024 Chairman Fred Stoll called the meeting to order at 6:30 PM. Supervisors Myron Olson and Kevin Mackie, Diane Nelson, Clerk ; Keith Kesler, Fire Chief ; and Mark Johnson and Taylor Lindsay, Streets Dept; also attended. Taylor is a new full-time employee who started last week. Minutes: Myron motioned, seconded by Kevin to approve the minutes of last month ’s board meeting, motion passed. Financial Report : The financial report showed: $ 52,820.29 in checking, $ 441,753.96 in the general money market account which includes $165,112.92 in a sub-account dedicated to the town garage, $19,227.37 in real estate tax account, $ 18,004.10 in personal property tax account, $35,962.83 in equipment account, and $55,043.32 in the ARPA Grant account. Myron motioned, seconded by Kevin to accept the financial report, and authorize paying the bills, motion passed. County Supervisor’s Report: Scott was unable to attend but provided information on upcoming meetings, resolutions, ordinance corrections, and recognition of youth representatives on the board and Cheryl Westmand retiring from the clerk’s office. Town Officers Reports: Fred discussed a call regarding the dump and needing the dump card to use facilities . Diane also spoke to them and issued a replacement card. Diane handed out a comment letter submitted regarding the proposed OSHA rules, which will have a devastating effect on volunteer fire departments. Road Report: Mark has training in the new employee, Taylor Lindsay. They’ve been mowing and graveling. Grader needs 2000 hr. tune-up. Fire Chief Report: They have had 6 medical calls, 1 motor vehicle accident, and 1 canoe rescue. New Business: Zoning: Nothing needed approval. Hughes Contract: Fred signed the new contract for Hughes, it will be mailed out tomorrow. Road Projects: Wentala: Road was pulverized from FF to Tuura Rd. Gravel was applied. This road will be blacktopped in 2025. Kauppi: Road was pulverized for 1 mile starting at C ounty Hwy H. Gravel was applied. This road will be blacktopped in 2025. Birch/Hill: Birch was pulverized from Lake Ave to Old Hwy 2. Some gravel has been applied; more is still needed. The area on Hill is small enough to wait to address it until just before paving. Birch Rd and the bad section on Hill will be blacktopped in 2025. Park and Highlanding : Myron got estimates for work on these two roads and a submission for funding was provided to Dan Kephart, DNR. 2 Old Business: Fire Dept. Water Source: A test well did not provide the volume of water we had hoped for. As several pockets of water were found between 60-100’ he will install an 8” well with 30-40’ of screen to draw from multiple source layers at once. Town correspondence was reviewed.
