www.brule-wi.gov
Date: May 1, 2024
Fred Stoll, Chairman called the meeting to order at 6:34 pm. Myron Olson, Kevin Mackie,
Keith Kesler, Amy Eliot, and Diane Nelson were present, and several townspeople were also in
attendance.
Agenda: Motion by Myron, seconded by Kevin to approve the agenda for the annual meeting,
motion carried.
Minutes: Motion by Myron, seconded by Kevin to approve the 202 3 annual meeting minutes ,
motion carried.
Financial Report: . A draft of the 2023 Municipal Financial Report was discussed. It included
all expenditures and revenues for 2023 . It is attached.
Fire Report: Keith Kesler reported the Fire Dept. had 831 volunteer hours spent at 23
training sessions. They responded to 77 calls, which included motor vehicle accidents,
medical emergencies, mutual aid, alarms, and fires. They have received a total of
$1,209,325 in grants and donations since 1995. The roof was replaced in 2023 to correct
leaks, failing paint and structural damage . Lynette has retired after 45 years; her assistance
and presence will be missed. Meetings are conducted on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the
month, starting at 6:30 PM . There continue to be numerous jobs that could assist the fire
department operation s that do not involve emergency response . The department is open to
anyone that wishes to lend a hand. His detailed report is attached.
Road Report: Fred mentioned projects that were completed or ongoing, including paving a
1-mile stretch of County Line Rd and replacing major culverts on Danielson and High Landing
Roads. The County paid for 50% of the culvert replacement costs. The DNR completed the
removal of the old, abandoned railroad grade over Nebagamon Creek. As part of the project,
they applied several inches of gravel to Bellwood Pit Road, stabilizing it enough to handle the
truck traffic for the project. Design work is being completed by SEH and WisDOT for the
After Hours bridge replacement. Construction is set for summer of 2025. Cost is covered
100% by the infrastructure bill . A new requirement for 2024 is to conduct a culvert
inventory in the town, the cost will be covered by the state. In 2025 all the culverts will be
inspected, and the condition rated by a firm hired by the county. The cost for inspections is
also covered by the state.
Garage Update: The WDNR indicated the governor signed off on the sale of the land across
from the dump, so we are just waiting for the paperwork to come through.
2
Assessors Report: Fred read the assessors report provided by Mike Schnautz, which is attached.
Sanitary District Report: The Sanitary District is doing well financially. They cleaned the
cattails out of the ponds, turned them over several times and then had them tested. They are ok to
spread out and disc into the berms. Mary Smet retired, and they hired Carrie Rydberg as the new
clerk/treasurer. They are noticing a surge of high strength waste once a month around the 15th but
haven’t been able to track down a source yet.
2024 Open Book & Board of Review: A meeting to Adjourn the Board of Review to a later
date will be held on May 14, 2024, at 6:15 pm. The town is having the assessor complete a
reassessment this year to come into compliance with the states equalized values. As the
revaluation is not complete, the meeting will be adjourned after setting a later date for the Open
Book and Board of Review .
2025 Annual Meeting : Motion by Fred Stoll , seconded by Myron Olson to set the date of
Tuesday, April 8th, 2025, at 7:00 pm for the next annual meeting, motion carried. The regular board
meeting for the month will be held at 5:00 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Diane Nelson, Clerk
