The budget is balanced with a zero-dollar bottom line and supports the Highway Department's ongoing road improvement program. Meeting adjourned at 10:42 a.m. Submitted by, Melissa Jarzomski, Committee Clerk 8/30/2026 - Request for Autism/Child Safety Signage on County Road Good evening, Mr. Jackman, I am reaching out to ask about the possibility of having an “Autistic Child” or similar child safety warning sign placed near our home on the county road. Our 26-month-old son, Jordy, is autistic and has recently begun eloping. Tonight, we had a very frightening incident where he suddenly got away from us and ran directly toward and into the highway outside our home. Thankfully, we were able to get to him, but the incident made us realize how quickly a potentially tragic situation could happen. We are especially concerned because our home is located on a blind corner. The posted speed limit is 50 mph, and vehicles frequently travel considerably faster than that. Drivers approaching our property have very little warning or visibility if a child were to enter the roadway. We are taking additional safety measures on our property to prevent Jordy from getting near the road again. Unfortunately, because our driveway exits directly onto a busy county road, placing a gate at the end of the driveway is not a safe or practical option. I understand that the county may have specific requirements regarding warning signs and what types of signs can be installed. I would greatly appreciate any information about whether an “Autistic Child,” “Child with Autism,” “Children at Play,” or other appropriate warning sign could be installed near our property. If that type of signage is not permitted, I would also appreciate guidance on any other traffic-safety measures the county could consider given the blind corner, vehicle speeds, and the safety risk to our son. We are not expecting a sign to replace the safety measures we are putting in place at home, but anything that could give drivers additional warning and encourage them to slow down near our property would mean a great deal to our family. Please let me know what information you need from us or what steps we should take to make a formal request. I would be happy to provide our address and any additional documentation that may be required. Thank you very much for your time and consideration. Sincerely, April Jacobson RETURN TO AGENDA RETURN TO AGENDA
