Room Tax Commission Meeting Minutes

Room Tax Commission meeting 1/21/26 Meeting called to order 4pm Present: Betty Meinholz, Adam Tutt, Rick Boes, Matt Cleveland, Marvin Schilling Audience: Scot Lundquist and Christy VanWinkle WinMan Trails is building short term rentals south of us, our competition. Marvin Schilling nominated for Secretary, Betty Meinholz made 1st motion, Matt Cleveland made 2nd motion, and passed. Adam Tutt nominated for Treasurer, Matt Cleveland made 1st motion, Betty Meinholz made 2nd motion, and passed. Rick Boes is Chairperson. Rick Boes has become liaison for Mercer Chamber and will begin attending their meetings. Matt Cleveland is a member of Northern Iron County Tourism Committee. Matt is also a member of Hurley Chamber. Current Hurley Chamber is pushing Silent Sports. Park Committee funding comes out of Town’s 30%. Adam Tutt suggest on the room tax grant application. We make it mandatory that at least two letters of support be required. Chamber is currently writing checks directly to advertising agency, not to entity requesting funds. Chamber will get 75% of the 70% collected, or $100,000, whichever is less. We will be meeting 4 times a year. Grant applications will have to be applied for. Next meeting March 18, 2026 at 2:00 pm.
