Park Commission Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, May 20, 2026, 6:00 PM
Chalet Landhaus Conference Room, 801 Wisconsin Hwy 69, New Glarus, WI
Park Commission Members in Attendance: Harry Pulliam, Chris Narveson, Kelly Ruschman, Jason
Neton, Mark Pernitz, Mona Sue French, Rose Pertzborn, Clerk Darla Kramer
Others in attendance: Lynn Paron and Willa Aldstadt
1. The meeting was called to order by Mark Pernitz at 06:03 PM.
2. Clerk Darla Kramer attested to the Proof of Posting on 05-18-2026 at the Town Garage, the Bank
of New Glarus, and the New Glarus Post Office. Posted to the website 05-18-2026.
3. Motion made by Mona Sue French to approve minutes from 03-18-2026. Seconded by Jason
Neton. All were in favor. Motion carried.
4. No public comments – Willa Aldstadt presented they are looking for a location to do a human
banner. She is a member of Liberty Bell Group promoting democracy. Green County stands up for
democracy. Need a location that handles 300 to 1000 for a good sign. Thinking of having this
event in October before voting in November. Would need restrooms and parking to accommodate
a large crowd. The group is also reaching out to civic teachers at high schools to get youth
involved.
The Park Commission met and planted twenty-three donated oak trees at Legacy Park and four
maples. Pictures are on The Town of New Glarus website.
5. 2026 Projects at Legacy Park – Mr. Klitzke is working on trails adding dirt and seed. The
committee will continue to work on seeding trails. Would like to roll the trails this summer, so
they have a good start towards next spring. Will meet with Dennis, look at the trails, and see where
they need work. The commission would like to get trails ready for cross country to use as practice
this year. Will concentrate on improving trails they would like first. Jason will speak with Quercus
and have them complete invasive removal.
6. Discussion Regarding Signage at Legacy Park – Mark Pernitz is getting set up as a representative
for the township. He will get approval to purchase signs from the correctional institute for the
park.
7. They have not been able to set a date to meet Fabos at BBRC for recommendations needed for
work at the park.
8. Friends of New Glarus Parks – The committee presented a rough draft for Articles of
Incorporation for a 501(c)(3). A corporation or LLC is a legal entity. The 501(c)(3) would allow
the organization to accept donations and they would be tax exempt. By setting up as a corporation,
individuals are not responsible. Further discussion will be had, regarding how many board
members they would like to see and direction they would like to go. Jason Neton will look into
what other organizations have done.
9. Conservation Easement – In early discussion about protecting the park. A third party would
oversee the park, possibly the 501(c)(3) board.
10. Discussion had regarding meeting agendas. It was determined that the clerk should be notified at
least a week in advance if they have items for the agenda or topics of interest for a meeting.
11. Rose Pertzborn’s term will be ending June 30th on the Park Commission. There will be an opening
on the committee. No need to change the current ordinance, as the committee will remain at 7
citizen members appointed by the Chairperson and confirmed by the Town Board.
12. Legacy Park Grant – All documents have been submitted to the DNR for reimbursement on the
$45,000 grant. We are waiting for review and will provide any additional information needed.
13. Meeting spaces – Starting June 1st all future meetings will be at the old town garage, 200 Railroad
Street, until the new town garage is complete.
14. Motion to adjourn at 7:45 PM made by Mark Pernitz and seconded by Kelly Ruschman. All were
in favor. Motion carried.
