Recreation Committee Meeting Minutes
January 12, 2026
Members present – Mike Gehrmann, Jess Thompson, Jen Schulz and Pat Hawkey. Ananya
Hoffman was in the audience and would like to be part of the rec committee.
Talked about if anyone was interested in becoming the chairperson, and no one at this time was
interested.
Actions needed:
- Ask Linda to post a request on the Facebook page and newsletter looking for a teacher
for the summer rec program. We would like a note put in saying that if we do not have a teacher
by March 2
nd, then we will not have a summer rec program.
- Ask Linda to contact the Brooklyn school to see what would be required to use the gym
and cafeteria for the Craft fair. Jen has a person who would be able to bring in 70 vendors if we
have a venue that can hold that many.
- Reviewed the continuation and structure of the committee, and it was felt that the group would
continue but there was no clear ideas on changing the structure or origination of the group. At
this time no changes were made.
-Ballet is being run by Lori Helker and it is going well. It will start Feb 1
st.
- Yoga is being run by Hope Mikkelson. Hope was not at the meeting; however, it was believed
that yoga is running without any issues.
-Pickleball, Pat Hawkey stated that about 30 people are involved in pickleball and that interest
continues to be high. Pat pointed out that they have raised money in the past to buy pickleball
supplies and that she has gone out and bought the nets and balls for both the indoor and outdoor
courts.
- Fundraising was talked about, and everyone thought it was a great idea but no one was
interested in running an event. During the discussion Pat asked about the money in the budget
for the fireworks and what it was used for.
- Parks and equipment were talked about, and replacing the sand under the equipment at Legion
Park and replacing it with grass would be great! The ground bees/wasps become a problem later
in the year.
- We talked about making a survey to send out to the residents to see what activities they would
like to see the rec committee do. Mike Gehrmann will work on questions and bring it to the next
meeting.
- The next meeting will be Feb 9
th at 5:30 before the normal board meeting at the village hall.
Meeting adjourned at 6:25 pm
