6. Town Board 2026 Budget Workshop : The Town Board and department heads went through the budget
worksheet. Clerk Lesser indicated that the increase to the general government budget section is due to the
purchasing of a new ballot tabulator for elections and the purchase of the required number of 4 electronic poll
books. Lesser also informed the Board that health insurance was a contributing factor to an increase in the budget,
raises were estimated at a 5% increase. Interim Fire Chief Sauer discussed his budget and indicated that they were
keeping the budget minimal for reasons of understanding the process and the potential of hiring a new Chief.
There was an increase due to budgeting for law enforcement protection. There was discussion of contracting with
the Village of Lac La Belle or the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department. The amount incorporated into the budget
was to cover the cost of the contract amount with the Village of Lac La Belle due to it being higher. Lesser also
explained that the increase is also contributed to the hiring of a full-time Fire/EMS Chief. Superintendent Degner
indicated that his budget was lower this year due to a decrease in engineering and road construction. Park
Supervisor Beaudette went over his area of the worksheet. Transfer Site manager Dave Schilling went over his
area of the budget worksheet and explained that again, the 2026 transfer site revenues and expenditures balance
out and there is no obligation to the taxpayer for operating the site.
Lesser explained that the budget is balanced, largely due to the LNG plant money coming in from the state, and
the final disbursement of the SLRF funds to compensate an additional Fire/EMS full-time position.
7. Adjourn: Rinard made a motion to adjourn at 9:19 pm. Kester seconded the motion. Motion carried, 4-0.
