CITY OF PITTSVILLE WATER & SEWER COMMISSION Wednesday, July 8, 2026 Council Chambers – 5318 First Ave. Pittsville The meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Chairman, Jerry Jensen. Members Present: Deana Becker, Janel Swoboda, Bob Schooley and Dennis Todd Also Present: Peter Petersen, Director of Public Works, and Mark Darr, Mayor No Conflicts of Interest were identified. Motion by Becker, second by Swoboda to approve the minutes from June 10, 2026. Motion carried. The commission reviewed the Water Tower Maintenance agreement that was presented at the last meeting. It was decided by consensus that due to the high cost, the contract with the same time span of work and coverage would need to be posted for bids. Peter will write up a contract and work on getting it posted in the Pittsville record to see if there is any competition. Online payment options discussed again. Due to the payments being split into 3 or more accounts at processing, there are no other reasonable options at this time to accept online payments. The commission decided by consensus to table this until more options are available that are more cost friendly as they don’t want to put such a large cost on the city residents. Peter consulted more with Hawkins as to how many totes would need to be purchased to reduce the sludge in the lagoons. Per Hawkins, three totes should be used the first year. After that, they can re-analyze to see how much breakdown there is and will then decide if the same amount will need to be used next year or less. Peter explained the sludge reduction would assist in reducing the phosphorus levels as well as improve the functions of the lagoons in general. Motion made by Todd to purchase three totes at this time at the cost of $5,500 each from Hawkins INC, Second by Schooley. Motion carried. Gary Markworth did a significant amount of work to his lawn this spring. This resulted in him watering his grass and a large increase in his water bill. Due to hi having a cellular meter, the city is able to see exactly how much water was used. Furthermore, this water did not go into the sewer. Motion made by Becker to adjust off the $181.99 portion of his sewer bill. Second by Swoboda. Motion carried. Peter discussed the Operational report. He mentioned that with the recent warm weather, residents are using more water. BSF is also using a significant amount of water for their cooling towers. This has caused the discolored water that residents and business owners are seeing again. A few more updates from the operational report are as follows: The booster pumps have arrived for well 6 and will be installed soon, the new covers have been installed on the lagoons, and throughout the city, over half of the meters are now cellular. Peter and Dennis located the hole in the pipe in Cat Creek. The hole is bigger than they had originally thought and will be a little more involved to repair. They did some minor maintenance to reduce the amount of water going into the pipe until it can be fixed correctly. Angela discussed the operational report. It was suggested to send out letters in the next billings for the property owners that have duplicate billings along with putting it into the Pittsville Record again. Future agenda items are as follows: Cat Creek hole repair, Water tower maintenance bids, manhole issue on main street Motion by Becker second by Todd to approve water vouchers #12234-12248 and sewer vouchers #08084-08098. Motion carried. Motion by Jensen second by Todd. to adjourn. Motion carried and the meeting was adjourned 5:50PM Submitted by, Angela Krueger, Deputy Clerk/Treasurer
