CITY OF PITTSVILLE WATER & SEWER COMMISSION Wednesday, June 10, 2026 Council Chambers – 5318 First Ave. Pittsville The meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Chairman, Jerry Jensen. Members Present: Deana Becker, Janel Swoboda, Bob Schooley and Dennis Todd Also Present: Peter Petersen, Director of Public Works, and Brett Hansen, Maguire No Conflicts of Interest were identified. Motion by Becker, second by Swoboda to approve the minutes from May 13. Motion carried. Brett Hansen introduced himself from Maguire. This company exclusively builds and maintains water towers all over the country. He explained that they have been in business since 1915. This contract would cover cleaning, painting, routine repairs, and emergency repairs. They offer yearly inspections with any repairs needed including handle any paperwork required as well as allowing the municipality to work with one point on contact. Maguire is flexible with their payment schedule and offer a lifetime warranty. Brett Discussed pricing and handed out a folder to each commission member. He thanked the commission for their time and consideration. Brett left at 5:25 after his presentation. The commission discussed the benefits of this contract. They decided on consensus vote to look over the paperwork and bring this back next month for a decision. Town web and workhorse now work together to offer an online payment option. This would allow residents to type in their account number and pay the amount due without coming to the municipal building. However, there is a cost associated with it. The resident would pay any service charges as well as the Water and Sewer departments would pay a yearly rate of $1,800. Other options were mentioned and it was requested to look into as the commission doesn’t think $1,800 is a reasonable amount to pay for convenience when the current option of the drop box or mail, are currently working fine, and are a very minimal cost. Angela will look into these other options and bring them next month. Mohler’s submit a request to have the sewer adjusted off their bill from watering their yard after doing some work. Todd made a motion to approve the $29.11 adjustment. Becker second. Motion carried Peter reviewed the yearly CMAR report. The only area that needs improvement was the phosphorus section. Peter expected this outcome with the switch over to the aqua hawk last year and not being able to regulate the chemicals as well until May. Influent, BOD, TSS, Ammonia, Biosolids, Staffing, OpCert, Financial, and collection categories, were all grade with an A. the Ponds were graded with a B due to the influent/effluent ratio. Phosphorus received an F which requires a response/resolution. Schooley made a motion to send Peters suggested resolution to the council for approval. Becker Second. Motion Carried Sludge reduction was the next topic discussed. After taking a closer look last week, Peter stated that all in all, the sludge looks pretty good. He said it varies from one end to the next from 2inches to 3 feet and is looking fluffy as he had hoped. He mentioned that it could use a little help to rid some more of it. Peters’ suggestion was to purchase 2 totes a year at the cost of roughly $5,500 each. This is similar in cost to the pucks they have been using but has the potential to work even better. The commission was presented with all of the past quotes for the booster pump replacements. Unfortunately, when attempting to replace used parts from the low head booster pumps to the high head booster pumps at well 6, it was discovered that the low head pumps and high head pumps don’t match up as previously thought. This means the booster pumps at well 6 will need to be replaced entirely. Cranes quotes came in at significantly less expensive than any of the others in January. The pumps at EP 100 will have to wait a while yet because the ones at well 6 are failing at this point. Todd made a motion to purchase the pumps for well 6 from crane, with the assumed increased cost incurred in the past six months. Becker second. Motion carried The commission reviewed the quotes for the VFD again. They discussed that the quotes from B&M were half of the price of the other quotes so they will likely be the best option in the near future. With all of the other large costs currently the commission decided, by consensus vote, to have Peter get a new quote for October from B&M with intentions of ordering them at that time, as the price will only continue to increase with waiting any longer. Peter then discussed his operational report. The discussions main focus was on a leak in the pipe that runs through Cat Creek. Maintenance would have to be done to repair this as there is a significant amount of water coming in. Peter will investigate and attempt to place a patch, but in August, plans to have Luke from R&R come and insert a sleeve in the pipe from the inside. He would have to wait until August when things are dryer so there is not as much water in the pipe to pump out for the repair. This cost will be roughly $5,000. Future agenda items for July will be; Water Tower Maintenance contract, online payment options, and sludge reduction. VFD quotes will be brought back in October. Motion by Becker second by Todd to approve water vouchers #12215-12234 and sewer vouchers #08071-08084. Motion carried. Motion by Jensen second by Todd. to adjourn. Motion carried and the meeting was adjourned 6:45 Submitted by, Angela Krueger, Deputy Clerk/Treasurer
