CITY OF PITTSVILLE
WATER & SEWER COMMISSION
WEDNESDAY, December 10, 2025
Council Chambers – 5318 First Ave. Pittsville
The meeting was called to order at 5:01 p.m. by Chairman, Jerry Jensen.
Members Present: Deana Becker, Janel Swoboda, Dennis Todd, Mark Darr,
Also Present: Dale Nichols, Mayor; Peter Petersen, Director of Public Works; Bob Schooley, Council Member
No Conflicts of Interest were identified.
Motion by Deana B. second by Janel S. to approve the minutes from November 12, 2025. Motion carried.
Peter discussed remaining two private wells due for inspection. Tom Minor is coordinating with All American Well &
Pump to obtain an estimate, and possibly apply for a grant to help with funding. We will update the commission next
month. Robert Webster had one bacterial sample taken and it passed. It also passed general inspection. By consensus vote,
the well permit was approved for another 5 years. It will be due again 12/01/2030.
Conversation was had again regarding the allowable timeframe for known leaks. There has not been a timeframe noted in
the past. The guideline found when looking into the PSC paperwork, states, “a reasonable amount of time”. After
discussion the commission recommended that 48 hours after notification, was a reasonable amount of time to repair leaks,
or turn off water supply to the leak. However, we will still have to use the current formula for the manually read meters.
The leak adjustment policy will need to be updated to be reviewed at next months meeting.
Peter the did not have an update for the wellhead protection plan. This will be put on next month’s agenda.
Administrative report was discussed. Dennis questioned why there was such a large amount of money in the Water
checking account. He suggested we discuss moving some to savings at next month’s meeting. Dale pointed out that the
loan from the city to the sewer department was paid back in full, plus interest.
Peter then discussed his operational report. He mentioned the bill was paid for the aquahawk for roughly $25,000. He and
Dale pointed out that this was a drastic drop in cost per gallon. Previously it was $19/gallon where now it is $11/gallon.
Peter brought a pump from lift station #1 that was burnt up and repaired today. He said it wasn’t likely anything happened
to it; he figured it was just due to 20+ years of use. He mentioned the pump on lift station #2 would also need to be rebuilt
or replaced in the upcoming year.
Future agenda items for January will be wellhead protection, Tom Minors private well update, updated leak policy, and
moving money from Water checking to savings.
Motion by Mark D, second by Deana B to approve water vouchers #12106-12123 and sewer vouchers #7989-8002.
Motion carried.
Motion by Janel S, second by Dennis T. to adjourn. Motion carried and the meeting was adjourned 5:31PM
