Police & Fire Commission Meeting — Minutes

Minutes of the Port Edwards Police and Fire Commission Regular Meeting – Monday, February 23, 2026 – 5 p.m. @ Buehler Center Present: Commissioners Drew, Thomasgard, Martin, Stewart (via phone link) Chief Lease, Cpt. Mancl, & Chief Abbott. Commissioner Weiland was excused. No other citizens were present. Meeting was called to order by VP Drew at 5:03 p.m. There was no public comment. Commissioner Drew proposed a motion to make an addition to the agenda as action regarding an additional applicant had been mistakenly left off the agenda. Motion by Drew, second by Martin to approve the addition of the 5th applicant to the agenda. All in favor. Chief Lease reported that the new Rescue vehicle will be delivered shortly, replacing a 21- year-old truck that will be traded in. Chief Abbott reported that the PEPD has acquired new equipment to aid in safely restraining those in custody and to aid in assisting someone who is choking. Motion by Drew, second by Thomasgard to go into closed session pursuant to WI Statute Sec. 19.85(1)(c) @ 5:09 p.m. All in favor. Motion by Drew, second by Martin to come out of closed session at 5:46 p.m. Following the closed session, the PEPFC took the following action: A) Motion by Thomasgard, second by Drew to place FD candidate A on the eligibility to hire list. All in favor. B) Motion by Stewart, second by Drew to send FD candidate B to medical exam, and, pending successful result, place on the eligibility to hire list. All in favor. C) Motion by Stewart, second by Martin to place FR candidate C on the eligibility to hire list. All in favor. D) Motion by Stewart, second by Drew to move FR candidate D to the interview step of the hiring process. All in favor. E) Motion by Stewart, second by Martin to send FD candidate E to medical exam and, pending successful result, place on the eligibility to hire list. All in favor. There were no closing remarks.
