Police & Fire Meeting — Minutes

Minutes of the Port Edwards Police and Fire Commission Regular Meeting – Monday, September 8, 2025 – 5:15pm @ Buehler Center Present: Chairman Stewart, Commissioners Drew, Martin, and Weiland. Also present Chief Brandon Abbott and Chief Dustin Lease. Meeting was called to order at 5:32pm by Chairman Stewart. There was no public comment. Motion by Weiland and second by Martin to approve the minutes from the August 11th meeting. All in favor. Annual Election of PFC Officers: Motion by Weiland and second by Martin to elect (all in favor): Chairman: Stewart Vice Pres: Drew Secretary: Thomasgard Fire Department Report: Chief Lease reported that Bike Rodeo and Brat Fry was a success. $1580.00 was raised and another $1580.00 will be donated from the Port Edwards Fire Department Athletic Association to the Port Edwards students who will be traveling to Hawaii to play at the WWII Pearl Habor Memorial. Chief Lease also reported that the CPR training for the public attracted 16 participants. The fire department has topped 211 calls for the year thus far. Membership is currently at 20, up from 9 members in June of 2024. Police Department Report: Chief Abbott echoed Chief Leases sentiment on the Bike Rodeo/Brat Fry. He also added that both departments are trying to bolster the youth programs. Chief Abbott told us that his department has been working with the School District to get all necessary trainings conducted ASAP . Chief Abbott said that he is starting to gear up for budget season. Part-Time Officer Kirkeng has not started working shifts yet but should be able to do so soon. Motion by Drew and second by Weiland to go into closed session pursuant to WI Statute 19.85(1)(c) @ 5:41 pm. All in favor. Motion by Drew and second by Weiland to come out of closed session at 5:48 pm. All in favor. Following the closed session, the PEPFC took the following actions: A. Motion by Stewart, second by Drew to move Candidate B to the next phase in the hiring process (medical). All in favor. B. Motion by Stewart, second by Drew to move Candidate A to the next phase in the hiring process (background and interview). All in favor. The next meeting of the PEPFC will be TBD.
