Opportunity for Public Comment: No public comments Discussion and Possible Action-Review of May 14, 2026, NAC Meeting Minutes Program Reports: A. Meal Pattern Changes for 2027 BADR (the Bureau of Aging and Disability Resources) has been introducing upcoming meal pattern changes for 2027 due to significant changes in the most current Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Program regulations state that the senior meal program will reflect the most current Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which changed in 2025. Some of the most significant changes include: • The dairy serving doesn’t just include fluid milk anymore and can be any fat level. Yogurt and cheese, cottage cheese and kefir of any fat level can all count as the dairy serving now. • Protein has been recognized as a macronutrient that older people need more of, but the serving size of cooked protein is still 3 oz. • Fruit and vegetable content of the meal still has to be 3 full servings, but has been liberalized to include at least 2 different colors per meal. The requirement to serve one bean/pea/legume dish has been dropped, as well as serving a certain number of colors of vegetables per week (ex. Leafy greens, red/orange vegetables, starchy vegetables). • Grain servings remain the same except that whole grains must be served whenever cost and availability makes it possible. • Fat servings – have been liberalized. Beef tallow, butter and other saturated fats have been included in the “healthy” fats categories, but still can only make up less than 10% of the fat in the meal. • Lastly, added sugar has been reduced to less than 10 grams per meal. The financial impact could make meals less expensive because of the liberalization of the kinds of Meeting minutes from May 14, 2026 discussion and possible action was put on hold until the Oct 13, 2026 meeting due to a lack of a quorum. K:\Agendas and Minutes\A&D Nutrition Advisory Council\NAC minutes fruits and vegetables required, however, prices of all food have been rising. B. Budget Update • A detailed financial report will be given at the next meeting C. Home Delivered Meal Update – increasing numbers • A meal number comparison for congregate meals for the first 6 months of 2025 and 2026 shows that numbers are a slightly lower this year than the same time last year. • Home delivered meals, by comparison, are up over 1,400 meals in 2026 over the same period last year. • The additional meals are increasing driver hours (which can trigger eligibility for health insurance and other benefits), maxing out equipment capacity, and increasing food and supply costs. Kitchen capacity is also a consideration. • A more detailed discussion will be held at the Oct 13, 2026 NAC meeting, along with suggestions to curb expenses. D. Congregate Meal Update • Congregate meal numbers are up in some sites and down in others. Cable, Cornucopia, Iron River and the Time Out continue to have strong participation, while Port Wing and St. Louis have leveled out. Barnes numbers have changed the most with numbers as low as 3-4. • Flu clinics are scheduled for October in all the sites and holiday events will take place in November and December. E. Other • Nothing to report. 2026 Meeting Dates October 13, 2026, 11:00 a.m., Bell Town Hall, Cornucopia The meeting concluded at 1:15 p.m. Renn-Malcheski adjourned the meeting. NAC members were invited to eat at the Time Out meal site for the senior meal. Minutes respectfully submitted by Carolyn Novak, ENP Supervisor
