Wisconsin Aging Advocacy Network Priorities (WAAN)
• WAAN is a group that advocates for priorities of the aging network. The platform this year is to
get increased funding for the Home Delivered Meal Program. Several infographics with talking
points have been developed that highlight the impact of the program in the State of Wisconsin.
Anyone can use them in their advocacy efforts.
2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans Implications for the Meal Program
• The new guidelines are expected to cause changes in the meal component pattern of the Elder
Nutrition Program. Feedback is currently being gathered from stakeholders around the state. The
Bureau of Aging and Disability Resources (BADR) is responsible for interpreting these guidelines
and developing new nutrition standards based on them. More to come on financial impact.
Aiken made a motion to approve the May 14, 2026, meeting minutes. Seconded by Strand. All in

Congregate and Home Delivered Meal Updates
• Cornucopia meal participants and friends of the meal program donated $2,500.00, to make up for
the loss of state funding Bayfield County normally receives for congregate meals.
• The Home Delivered Meal Assessment Tool has been updated to collect more holistic information
about HDM participants. The tool is scored to determine the level of nutrition risk (high, medium,
low). The information can be used as justification to provide more service to high-risk participants
or to rank people should a waiting list become necessary in the future.
Other (Informational Items) – Funding Updates, Health Promotion Opportunities
• Coco’s Bakery in Washburn is providing a weekly donation of fresh, whole-grain bread for the
meal program. The bread meets the program requirements and is delicious!
• Senior Empowerment Day – is being planned for June 18, 2026, as a way to acknowledge World
Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Harbor Table will host the event, which starts at 9:30 with vendor
booths, followed by speakers, a demonstration of Tai Qi Kwan (hopefully) on the lawn, lunch and
prizes. The event will focus on empowering seniors to improve their health and wellbeing.
