SLMD Minutes 10-4-25 SLMD board members Marilee Pelko, Ted Gallagher, Josh Daubner, Gary Walejko attended, members Derek Stone, Mike McMonigol, and Joan Lehman were also in attendance. Ted G called to order at 9:01. Marilee P 1st and Ted G 2nd to accept minutes from April meeting as sent via emails to membership ahead of this October meeting. Treasurer’s report: Marilee handed out copies and went through the report. 7 month and 13 month CDs have been purchased as discussed in the June annual meeting. Beginning balance of $23,718.09 and ending balance of $3161.01, after the investments. Ted moved to accept the report. Josh D 2nd. Motion passed. Marilee brought up Joan Lehman still being listed on the SLMD bank account as a signee. We discussed leaving her listed as a backup signee in the case that Marilee was absent. Josh moved to leave it this way. Ted 2nd. Motion passed. Marilee went over our worker’s comp insurance with Auto Owners and the fact that we may not need it because everything that is done on the lake is volunteered and unpaid, or provided by paid vendors with their own insurance. Ted moved to have it eliminated. Josh D 2nd. Motion carried. Old business - Goose control; Bill Hutchison sent an update and I read this email from him: “The 2025 goose reporting forms have been filed with both the Wi DNR and the USDA.  In addition Mike Jones sent a copy to the Wi DNR.  Mr Jones has always been very helpful.   I thanked him (below) and advised him this year it appeared that some birds of prey may have lent a hand (or beak) in taking eggs and having something to do with the entire goose population evacuating Spring Lake.   We’ll see if they return before departing for the winter.   I sent copies of the report forms to the SLMD PO Box, for the records.   Thanks again for everyone who participated in the 2025 process, human and aviary.   Bill Hutchison” Water analysis - is tabled until we can talk to Mike Beauchaine about testing, as he volunteered to handle it at the June meeting. Carp gate: Cattails were treated in September with herbicide. Gary W was unaware and we talked about the treatment and how the permits to dredge were not getting anywhere. Mike M reviewed the DNR holdups and personnel changes and why we moved from dredging to killing the cattails. It was easier to get the permit for chemical treatment of the cattails. Gary mentioned how he was waiting for a call from DNR new rep on dredging. We are tabling dredging until we can see how the herbicide works. Ted will ask about how the process of dying off is supposed to look. Plus ask about what to do with the dead remains come spring. We may need volunteers to clear dying debris. AIS survey - Ted read the results of the treatment survey. Results of survey look good compared to year’s past. They recommend spot treatments in the South Bay. Purple Loostrife was also noted on the west side of the lake. Purple Loostrife is a non-aquatic invasive that property owners should be made aware of, but is up to them to remove it per their discretion. Documentation project - will continue to work on over winter. We talked about ideas for folder structure and organization of the cloud drive. Ted will ask the Lake Council if anyone on other lakes is doing this and how it may be organized. New Business: Budget - Marilee highlighted what she included in the treasurers report on what was spent last year and what we are spending this year, and what we expect to spend next year, although there is nothing budgeted in the 2027 year. Marilee will fill in the missing info and present at Jan meeting. We discussed how the budget should always be set at the April meeting and approved at the annual meeting. We will do this going forward. We then discussed the annual meeting date in that Marilee can’t be there the morning of the June 6. We will talk to the town about moving it to the 13th instead. Cattails/Carp Gate: talked about in Old Business. AIS plan: Ted will contact Cason and WI Lake and Pond to get their plans/proposals for next year. Newlsetter, FaceBook, etc to raise awareness: We will use FB more. Lisa Griegel has control of the FB page, and I will have her contact Marilee about moving it to her. PFAS testing: Mike Beauchaine will handle - we will table this until Jan along with water testing through Mike B. I moved and Ted 2nd. Mike M brought up possible ramifications if the PFAS tests are positive - could affect property values, fish harvests, etc. Open discussion: Gary brought up boat landing and how they will be fixing it with concrete pad and reinforce the landing so it should not wash out. Mike M brought up utilities and recent Spectrum fiber being laid on private property, because easements are not for 65’ roads. Ted moved to adjourn at 10:15. Marilee 2nd. Motion passed and meeting adjourned.
