April 20, 2024 SLMD board Minutes Meeting called to order at 9:01 by Joan Lehman Joan moved to approve the appointment of Dave Vetter as interim Treasurer, Gary Walejko 1st, Josh Daubner 2nd. Motion passed. Dave will hold the position until the annual meeting in June. Joan had to put herself on the form so she can manage the bank account and will put the next treasurer on the account once officially elected at the annual meeting. Joan noticed the PO Box on our letterhead is not correct and I corrected. Josh Daubner read the January 2024 board meeting minutes; Joan moved to accept; Gary 2nd. Motion carried. Joan Lehman handed out the treasurer’s report: She had updated and corrected the treasurer’s report back to Q2 last year; ending balance is $26,252.76. Gary moved to accept, Josh Daubner 2nd. Motion carried. Old Business: Goose Control - Kevin Milliken has been treating the eggs with Mike Hutchison for 2 weeks now at McMonigol’s pier. 7 eggs found. No other nests found yet. Fish habitat - Joan had not contacted the DNR but found it on the website, about this as far as cribs go; we will bring it up at the annual meeting. Discussion on SLMD dues - because of current treasurer’s balance, and because of the DNRs reluctance to approve wide spread weed treatment, we should not have to increase any dues. We will make it a point at the annual meeting to mention why we are not raising any dues and that we will be reviewing whether the need is there every year prior to the annual meeting. Carp Weir - Derek says its in good shape after the repairs last year (the concrete blocks that Gary and Rob Walejko had placed) We still need to look at pulling cattails on the far side of the weir. We will need to ask the DNR for permission to scoop them out. Joan will talk to Ted Johnson (our DNR contact) about it. Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) treatment status - The DNR will not accept Cason’s permit, and the fact that we asked to treat the entire lake at once, because of the extra $10k we have. Ted Johnson (DNR) will not accept the plan based on Curly Leaf Pond Weed (CLPW) and the use of a new treatment chemical. He will accept the Eurasian Water Milfoil (EWM) treatment. Kevin Milliken explained his history with the DNR and Ted Johnson and how they are always reluctant to treat CLPW, since it usually takes care of itself as it grows so fast that it chokes itself out and dies out every July when it gets warm. He also mentioned that Ted mentioned our lake management plan is not clear enough on how to treat CLPW. They will treat the 2 worst areas of the lake for EWM. Ted Johnson is coming to the lake in May to survey the lake himself and talk with Joan about treatment ideas and how we best can move forward in the future. New business - Preparing the budget - Joan has made a tentative copy of the budget that we will propose at the annual meeting. She broke down the normal incomes and expenses we typically spend and receive and has rounded up most expenses about 10% based on inflation. Joan will prepare with the new numbers for June. Water testing and analysis - Mike Beauchaine will be testing this spring Board members terms - things got out of whack over the last few terms and we are all up for re-election at the same time. Joan Lehman suggested that we have a 1, 2, and 3 year terms for the next positions, to get back to a 3 year term for all positions, rotating every year. We will ask for volunteers for these appointments at the annual meeting. Treasurer’s audit. Should be done by an SLMD member that is not on the board. Kevin Milliken volunteered to do the audit. June meeting agenda: We will use this meeting’s agenda and last year’s annual meeting minutes to make the agenda. Josh Daubner moved to adjourn at 10:31 AM, Gary Walejko 2nd. Meeting adjourned.
