Wild Rose Days Planning Committee Meeting Minutes
Friday, August 1, 2025
Our Mission Statement: To create a self-sustaining, affordable family festival,
which involves the whole community, bringing everyone together.
Present: Mary Pilz, Dan Arndt, Tara Anderson, Patty Delrow, Elizabeth Reynolds, Kent
Barnard, Pete Duesterbeck, Helen Cox, Dave Przekurat, Jane Erickson
The meeting was called to order by Tara Anderson at 2 P.M. The minutes from July 16
and today's agenda were reviewed and approved.
Financial Report – A general summary of donations and revenue was presented. A more
detailed report will be distributed when all expenses are submitted.
Items for Discussion
Friday Event – Attendance was down slightly; about 250 meals were served. Expenses
were covered by donations from Stoneridge, Benny's Wild Rose Market, and by Marty
Lee. Some people mentioned missing the usual pasta salad. The Community Band
appreciated having an area blocked off where they could drive in to unload next to the
gazebo.
Layout – The new location & layout for the food worked efficiently. The corn hole
location worked well. We will re-assess parking for Jim & Nancy next year. Tara wants
to reconsider tent layout in the children's carnival area.
Parade – There were 36 entries in the parade. Grand Champion was the Wild Rose
Community Band. Kind Heart winners were Wild Rose Baptist Church and Grace Bible
Church. Tara will pick up the trophy from Rosemore and take it to Holt's Jewelry for the
new engraving. Kent will print the Grand Champion and Kind Heart certificates and get
them to the Community Band and churches. Mary Kunasch will emcee the parade again
next year and appreciated having the donor and activity information to share.
Carnival Activities – The face painting and balloons were very popular. Tara will
reserve the face painter for next year and Patty will reserve the balloon person. Jane will
reserve Jim 'n Nancy and Haven Petting Farm for next year. We ran out of books early;
will try to get 200 books next year. Copper Leaf expressed interest in helping with more
games as part of their community outreach. Theda Care provided a first aid supply tent
for our event with bandaids and ice packs. Kent reported about 80 children enjoyed the
Kid's Show.
Food/Beverages – The snow cone sales took in $300 for the Historical Society on
Saturday (the snow cones were provided free on Friday). Lauritzens donated ice and a
small freezer for event use. Jane will send a thank-you note. The food stand ran out of
hamburgers, used all of the brats and hot dogs, and had about 13 pounds of pulled pork
left. The extra pork and buns were donated to the fire department. Next year we will
order 50 # of pork. The bar sold about $90 worth of beverages on Friday night
compared to $200 last year.
Basketball/Corn hole – There were 18 corn hole teams and 16 basketball teams. We will
reconsider basketball schedules for next year.
Raffle – Our share of the 50-50 raffle was $260. We made $2,425 on the raffle of the
donated gun – we appreciate the Legion running that raffle on our behalf. Malchow has
offered to donate a rifle next year and we will hold the raffle again via the Legion.
Fireworks – The fireworks were wonderful and there were many Facebook posts
appreciating them.
Theme/Dates for 2026 – Next year's event will be July 24 & 25, 2026.
Other –
Patty will send thank you notes to raffle basket donors.
Next year we need a sign that states the train rides end at 3.
We should put up a mister next year near the children's area. Elizabeth will check prices
at Menards.
The Lions did very well with their pancake breakfast.
St. Paul's church had a successful sundae sale.
