The Committee’s purpose is to evaluate the immediate, mid- term, and long -term needs of the Library. The goal of the Committee is to provide a report to the Library Board and Common Council by July 31, 2026, outlining recommended repairs, renovations, and expansion needs. The Committee’s initial focus was reviewing immediate and mid-term needs. Several immediate repair items were included in the 2026 City budget. However, to properly plan for additional immediate and mid-term needs, and to avoid duplicative work, the Commit tee issued a request for proposals in June 2025 for an Interior Renovation Master Plan. The plan focuses on ADA compliance improvements, a redesigned entrance, safety enhancements to the Children’s Pit, and other needed repairs. It also includes planning for the addition of study rooms, enhancements to the multipurpose meeting room, and refurbishment or replacement of the elevator. The RFP specified that the work should build upon the planning already completed. The Common Council hired Somerville Architects in fall 2025 to complete this work. The Library Board reviewed the recommendations from Somerville in June 2026 and recommended them to the Common Council. Somerville will present an update to the Common Council at tonight’s meeting. Following the presentation, City staff will provide updates on funding requirements and fundraising efforts targeting a potential project kick -off in 2028. To support fundraising efforts, the Library Foundation has requested that the Council consider a resolution of support for the project at an upcoming meeting. While this would be a non-binding resolution, it would allow the Foundation to begin more formal fundraising efforts. Recommendation: Receive and discuss the presentation from Somerville regarding the Ad Hoc Library Repair, Renovation, and Expansion Committee’s future Plymouth Library renovation recommendation.
