Resolution for easement at the airport: A resolution was presented to approve an easement to WE Energies for the installation and maintenance of natural gas service at the airport. Motion carried. Coordinator update: • We have seen an increase in airport activity with better weather. More single engine aircraft. We had a few transitioning jets which resulted in 3000.00 in Jet A. Pella has two flights scheduled this week. We also have a transitioning aircraft making a fuel stop on 5/12. Governor Evers flew in last week to go bike ride on a trail in Athens. • The terminal well was sanitized and water sample sent off last week. I have been working on repainting it to give it a more modern look as this is the first thing visitors to our community see when they fly in. • The lawn mowers have the oil changed and are ready for the summer mowing season. With that Rick stated he cannot mow due to his health. We hired Tim Farrand and he will start at the end of May. Jeff Mayer only wants to cover my vacation time as he has a lot of family things planned. • The natural gas is moving forward and all applications are in and WE Energies is waiting on the signed easement papers. • Last month I attended the BOA seminar in Stevens Point, WI. They discussed all the challenges with staffing and how they plan to streamline the process for getting things done. The hangar project is being pushed up to have it started by late fall. • The control contactor for the runway lights failed and needed replacing. I found a replacement at CTC in Wausau. • The Hamburger fly ins are set for June, 17 th and August 19 th. Billy Zawacki ’s family will take care of the food and we plan to host it in the maintenance terminal. • Replaced the cutting edge on the snowblower and ordered filter set for New Holland tractor. • I purchased a new gate sensor to replace the ground loop system that continues to fail. Other items from the committee: There was a discussion about setting the price of fuel. The committee asked that it be adjusted weekly to market price and tracked. It was also suggested that Colwell reach out to Pro Designs to have the sign updated. Adjournment: Motion by Hoffman, seconded by Albrecht, to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried. At the last meeting it was determined that hours would be reviewed the end of March. Hager explained that Colwell has consistently been working 32 hours per week. She recommended we move the position to a permanent position on our compensation plan, as when it went vacant we classed it as casual/seasonal while we determined the capacity of the position. Full-time employees with Taylor County work a minimum of 35 hours per week and receive full benefits. Because the position is classed less than that benefits are prorated and employee contribution is higher. Motion was made by Hall, Seconded by Swiante k to make the Airport Coordinator position a permanent full -time 35 hour per week position to be placed on the county’s compensation plan. Motion carried. Lay members: Zenner explained that the Committee on Committee and Rules has suggested one of the lay members on the Airport Committee be replaced with a county board supervisor. The Committee on Committee and Rules asked Zenner to reach out the lay members and ask if they would be willing to step down. Mark Hoffman relayed to Zenner he would step down if needed. Zenner re-affirmed the change has not passed the County Board and would only occur if approved at the April board meeting. Coordinator update: • Airport hangar build in progress – low bid was M&J at $714,000 and will be awarded in the fall • Natural gas service to airport – applications to WE Energies were submitted by the tenants and airport • Hangar space – there are two aircraft hangered in Weather Shield hangar and three in the Hurd hangar. Four additional individuals have reached out for hangar space. Based on interest, Taylor County could consider selling one of the county owned hangars (Hurd or Weather Shield) after the three -bay hangar has been completed. • A videographer pilot will be coming in May to create a promotional video for MDZ. It’s free of charge. Zenner will share with Economic Development as well. • The two part -time employees (Jeff & Rick) have indicated they would like to reduce hours at the airport. This leaves a need for someone to assist with lawnmowing and snow removal. Pat and Nicole will work to fill the position(s) once they receive confirmation of the status of the two part-time employees. • The contactor that controls the airport lighting failed. Pat installed new w iring and contactor. • The airport sold 284 gallons of fuel in March. Sales should pick up as Pella is now starting to fly in again. • Hager shared notification from the FAA on a wind project that will be approximately eight miles from the airport. Swiantek left at 10:55 a.m. Natural gas service to the airport: Colwell stated that the airport would have saved approximately $3800.00 in 2025 if there was natural gas instead of LP. Colwell said that the gas company is working on engineering costs and he will bring more information to the next meeting. Deicing and anti-icing service equipment: Colwell stated that the airport sold no Jet A Fuel, as Pella has been cancelling due to weather and the fact that we don’t have de-icing capabilities.
