The 2025 weights are down slightly by 5#/capita. All municipalities in the Recycling Authority
met 83.7# per person except one; with the average being 132.6# per capita collected.
Tonnages/Expenses for 2026 to date : So far in 2026, the weights through April are down
approximately 2% compared to 2025. Six of the sites are down in volumes with 10 sites
increasing. There was $46,234 carried forward from 2025 into 2026. The expenses to date are
$20,766. The current balance available is $25,468. The DNR has notified us we will be receiving
$88,472.41 in grant dollars, which is $0.63 less than last year. The Recycling Authority will
receive approximately $43,750 of the grant dollars for operating this year.
Molitor request to Join : The Town of Molitor Chairperson was present to discuss the
possibility of joining the Recycling Authority. Their current contract with Waste Management
will expire in June 2027. Various options and concerns were discussed. We will continue to
explore options that are beneficial to both parties before a decision is made. This will be
discussed again at the October meeting.
Appliance & Electronic collections : The collections were held on Saturday, May 2 in Medford
and Gilman. There were 405 participants in Medford for electronics with 502 TVs/monitors
collected. There were 68 participants in Gilman with 161 screens collected. We do not have the
pounds of electronics at this time, but 2 semis were totally filled. The appliance collection in
Medford had 187 vehicles with 312 appliances collected. In Gilman, there were 44 participants
with 77 appliances collected. The Medford Lions again provided workers at the Medford site for
electronics. The Village of Gilman supplied the equipment for loading the trailer at that site. We
greatly appreciate all the volunteers who assist with making the program run smoothly.
Hazardous Waste Collection: The Hazardous Waste Clean Sweep will occur on Wednesday,
June 10 from 10 am to 2 pm in Medford at the Fairgrounds. Collected will be chemicals,
pesticides, cleaners, oil base paint, stains, fluorescent tubes, etc. Advertising has been
distributed.
Tire collection: Bee Line was contacted for a quote and they bid $300/ton (up $25/ton from
last year) due to fuel prices. Liberty Tires was also contacted for a quote, and their price, if
dropped off at their site, is $285/ton. In discussing dates, prices, size of tires, advertising,
workers, etc., it was decided to collect on August 8 in Medford and Gilman and on August 15 in
Holway from 8 AM to Noon at each site. Each town will provide a worker to help with the
collection. If there is a “no show” the town will be charged $100. Municipalities in the Recycling
Authority will be allowed 10 free car/truck tires from road ditches. The tire prices/sizes were
discussed and changed slightly from 2025. Motion by Brenda Miller and seconded by Del
Kroeplin to charge $6/tire for up to 22” (car/SUV/pick -up); 23” to 24” (includes semi) will remain
$20/tire; 24” to 30” (front tractor) will remain $25/tire; and motion by Ray Sackman and
seconded by Joe Zenner to charge $100/tire for over 30” (oversized, back tractor, end loader,
skidder, etc.). Motions carried. Advertising will occur as in the past.
