The next group of volunteers are from Day of Caring. This is being reviewed at the Finance Committee on 9/12/24. Viergutz stated Joe from Buildings and Grounds had two options for office spaces. One idea was using part of the space of the Multi -Purpose Room, which cost about $75,000; however, that would remove much needed space from a room that is used frequently for various county functions. The other option is to build out towards the parking lot in front of the Historical Society costing approximately $200,000. Viergutz also stated that a few revisions were made on the application to the state; and she met with the state fiscal person to finalize the budget earlier this week. Indianhead received a grant again this year. All those receiving a flu or covid shot can fill out an application for a $25 gift card. The thought providing flu vaccinations at the nail care sites is to reach those that do not attend the Senior Health Fair, but to also cut down on the congestion at the health fair. • Medford Site Modernization: Also with the Supporting Health Aging Grant, monies were utilized to provide a face-lift to the Medford dining Site. A group of high school students will be coming in on 9/27/24 to begin painting one of the walls. In October, volunteers with United Way’s Day of Caring will be coming in for a few hours to also help with whatever is needed or finish painting. Aging & Disability Resource Center of the Northwoods Update: No update other than Jamie Zarda is the new regional manager for the ADRC of the Northwoods. Fierke reported that within this past month she had the opportunity to work with Jessica from the ADRC with a family friend and Wojcik reported working with Kari for a family member; both had expressed appreciation of their knowledge, compassion and the time they were given to go through all their questions and resources. This sparked discussion regarding the community really knowing what the ADRC is and what services they provide. A copy of the results was shared with the group. Review Three -year Aging Plan Goal Development: The four identified goal areas revolve around our Title III funding areas. 1. IIIB Supportive Services - we discussed transportation and services with our minibus to the rural communities. 2. Title IIIC Nutrition was discussed - a goal regarding pop up nutrition sites and themed meals revolving around person centeredness to promote the nutrition program and participation. 3. Title IIID Evidence -Based Health Promotion - Focused on Falls prevention programs such as Bingocize, Stepping On or Walking with Ease. 4. Title III E Caregiver Supports - this goal will need to be explored a little more and will be a work in progress. As we become one ADRC and have our own Dementia Care Specialist, that individual will also assume the role of Caregiver support and will be able to develop that current program larger than what it currently is. There was much discussion on how we can tie our community engagement results into our goals. The next steps will be to have the goals written for review at the next meeting and then scheduling a public hearing. Director’s Report: 1. Commission on Aging received a Fulcrum grant for a vehicle purchase for our department. Viergutz has been working with Medford Motors and has identified a 2022 Ford Explorer and is in the process of finalizing that purchase. 2. The Supporting Healthy Aging Coalition applied for two grants and was awarded both grants of $100,000 each for Social Isolation and Loneliness and Livable Communities. Kudos to the Health department who wrote the grant and will be managing the grant. Viergutz provided some examples of what was written into the budget worksheet of these grants. Some of these areas include transportation in local areas, Wi -Fi and technology in the nutrition sites, wheelchairs for all nutrition sites, continued public educational series including marketing and publications, pocket translators and hearing devices, respite services, print services for updating senior resource guides. Viergutz stated the list has so many items that will truly help our Coalition make an impact on our communities. The majority of these funds need to be spent by March 31, 2025, so these items will have a fairly quick implementation time. 3. Health Promotions- Barb and Gail just finished Bingocize in Jump River this week. It was well received, and participants all showed an overall improvement in strength and balance. Jenn and a volunteer will facilitate a Powerful Tools for Caregivers class starting next week and Mind Over Matter will most likely be scheduled for August or September. 4. Events: Farmers Market Vouchers will be available for distribution beginning on Tuesday June 18 and June 19 th in the Multi -Purpose room, June 20 th in Gilman and Jump River and then anytime in the office after those kick -off events. The vouchers are worth $45 this year and our office received about twenty additional certificates than last year. Each book comes with (9) $5 vouchers that can be used at any Authorized Vendor in the State of WI. An Authorized Vendor is to display a yellow sign at their booth. In Taylor County we have two vendors: We Grow LLC and Nelson Berry Farm. Participants must use all $5 at one time as no change will be given. Vouchers are good until October 31, 2024.
