Approval of Minutes: Motion and second by Dan/Mary Lou to approve the meeting minutes from August 15, 2023. All Ayes. Motion carried. Open Discussion of Library Related Issues: All Directors say Thank you to the County for the money they receive from them to run the Libraries. However, the price of books, magazines etc. have gone up and it’s getting harder to keep getting in new books, etc. Towns did give the Libraries more money (10% of their budget) for operating expenses only. Discussed if they could get more from the county or what they can do to bring in from other sources. Also noted was that Westboro uses their area as a community center. The older population comes to the Library to visit with others and have coffee. Computer usage is up and they support the home-schooled children. The committee asked the Directors to put on a presentation for the July County Board meeting lasting no longer than 5 minutes discussing Community Impact; What services are done in the Libraries; Library use is not all about circulation. Grants: Libraries are not a 501c3 non -profit. They would have to apply through a committee to be eligible for any grants. Will check with the RVA if any funds are available for the libraries to use as they are a source that home schoolers use. Next Meeting Date: September 10, 2024 1:00 pm at the Medford Memorial Public Library Adjournment: Motion made by Dan/Mary Lou to adjourn at 1:39 pm. All Ayes. Motion carried. Respectfully submitted: Catherine Lemke for Karen Rusch, Secretary
