Mayor Rob’s Report September 2026 Hello Friends and Residents of Mayville, As always, I want to take a few minutes each month to update you on what is happening around our community, share some important announcements, and give you a little insight into what we are working on at City Hall. Welcome Back, Darlene! I would like to start by welcoming Darlene Smith as our new City Treasurer. Darlene has many years of experience in municipal government, including several years working in municipal finance. We are very fortunate to have her experience and knowledge returning to the City of Mayville. We are happy to have you back. Celebrating Rob Schrab and Monster House This month, I am proud to proclaim September 17, 2026, as Rob Schrab and Monster House Day in the City of Mayville. For those who may not know, Mr. Schrab grew up right here in Mayville before going on to pursue a successful career creating and directing movies and television, along with many other creative projects. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Monster House, and Mayville could not be prouder of Mr. Schrab and his accomplishments. As part of Audubon Days week, we will be showing Monster House on September 17 to celebrate this milestone and recognize someone from our own community who went on to make his mark in the entertainment industry. It is always special when someone from a small community like Mayville goes out into the world and accomplishes great things. We are proud to call Rob Schrab one of our own. Continuing the Sewer Discussion This past month, Alderman Debaker and I met with the Kekoskee/Leroy Sanitation District to discuss the City's 2022 moratorium regarding additional sewer hookups outside the city limits. These conversations were very educational and have allowed both sides to better understand the issues we are facing. There is still work to be done, but I believe having open and honest discussions is an important step as we work through the future of sewer hookups and growth around Mayville. Halloween Trick-or-Treat After speaking with our Police Chief, the City of Mayville will be holding Trick- or-Treat on Halloween- Saturday October 31, from 1:00–4:00 PM. Please mark your calendars and make a note of the time change. We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable Halloween, so please watch out for our children throughout the afternoon. Remembering September 11 This past week, we recognized September 11, a day that forever changed our country. I can still remember the exact moment and where I was when I heard and witnessed the horrific events taking place that day. For many younger Americans, September 11 is something they have only learned about through history books and stories from others. Approximately 22% of younger people today were not yet born when those events occurred. That is why it is so important that we continue to remember and educate. I am incredibly grateful for all our police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, and first responders who protect and serve our great nation and our great city every day. Thank you for your service and your commitment to keeping our communities safe. Mayville School District Referendum I was recently notified that the Mayville School District will be holding a $950,000 referendum at the November general election. As Mayor, I am taking time to better understand what this referendum could mean for our residents and what the potential impact may be going forward. I encourage everyone to become engaged, learn about the referendum, ask questions, and make an informed decision. I have been in contact with some of our School District leaders to gain a better understanding of where we stand as a school district and what the needs are moving forward. There is still more information to come, and I will continue to keep our residents informed as I learn more. Looking Ahead to the 2027 City Budget The past few months have been extremely busy for me as we work through the 2027 City of Mayville budget. One of the biggest challenges we are facing this year is the loss of nearly $9 million in assessed property value because of the Mayville tornado and properties coming off the tax roll. That represents approximately 5.3% of our overall assessed value. When a community loses that much property value, the remaining taxpayers must make up some of the difference for the City to continue providing the services our residents depend on. For the 2027 mayoral budget proposal, I have worked to find a balance between maintaining city services, making necessary cuts, and borrowing some additional funds. The goal is to keep the overall mill rate increase to approximately 2.39%. With inflation at approximately 3.5% and the city facing a 5.3% reduction in assessed value, I believe this proposal represents an economical and fair approach to dealing with the challenges in front of us. At the same time, I want to make sure Mayville continues moving forward. I have been speaking with developers about bringing new projects to Mayville, and we have some very interesting opportunities on the horizon, including new residential lots and multifamily housing projects. Growth is important to our community, and I believe responsible development can help strengthen Mayville's future. Of course, the proposed budget is not final. The City Council will ultimately need to review and approve the budget, and changes may be made after the Council meets with each department to evaluate its financial needs. I want to take this opportunity to thank all our department heads, city staff, and Cameron Sawyer (our finance consultant) for their hard work and assistance in making this year's budget process as smooth as possible. There is always something happening in Mayville, and I appreciate the opportunity to serve as your mayor and in keeping our residents informed. Thank you for taking the time to read my report and thank you for caring about our community. As always, if you see me around town, stop and say HI! Mayor Rob City of Mayville
