PRESENTATION: URBAN FORESTRY INTERNSHIP PROJECT
C. Clark & Paolo Concha, Urban Forestry Intern
- Presented the urban forestry project that he worked on this summer.
- Project updated the computerized tree inventory of public parks and street trees for the
village and was funded in part by a Wisconsin DNR Urban Forestry Grant.
- The tree inventory is a cloud-based GIS program that provides many attributes for the
trees including tree species, size, location, year planted, and condition.
- As a cloud-based program, we are now able to track any tree maintenance in real time
which will assist with future urban forestry management decisions.
- Equipment used to update the inventory during this project was a diameter tape to
determine the diameter (size) of the tree trunk, a 100’ tape measure for determining the
right of way distance, an iPad for entering data, and a vehicle for traveling around the
village.
- A few results from the tree inventory project:
▪ 4,927 trees in the inventory in parks and along the street right of ways
▪ Most common tree in the inventory is Norway maple
▪ Largest tree was a silver maple that is 68” diameter on Auburn St.
▪ The tree inventory data is available for village staff to utilize using Asset Ally
software
▪ Information will be shared with the Wisconsin DNR to be included on a community
tree inventory website
DISCUSSION/ACTION: 2027 PARKS CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECT BUDGET
The Committee continued discussion regarding capital improvement projects in parks for the
2027 budget. The list was derived from projects defined in the Comprehensive Outdoor
Recreation Plan, projects defined by the Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Committee during a
2024/25 exercise, as well as a needs assessment from Village staff.
The first three items have an estimated cost of $25,000 and will be requested to be added to Fund
47 from the tax levy. The Village Board has previously included this amount annually.
- Site furnishings include picnic tables, benches, bike racks and other amenities that are
purchased on an annual basis.
- A new park entrance sign would be installed at Wiese Park in 2027 to match current park
signage. This was deferred from the 2026 budget.
- Site lighting for Green Isle Park will continue the replacement of lighting within the park
with LED lighting.
