This year is the 18th annual Bike the Barns event and will be hosted in the Mount Horeb area, beginning and ending at Badger Prairie County Park in Verona, WI. Riders register for either a short route (41 miles) or a long route (61 miles). We plan to have riders ride with traffic and begin with a waterfall start so that all riders are spread out at the beginning of the race. Travel is along a well-marked route on low-traffic roads that allow us to link local farm stops throughout the Mount Horeb area. Each participant enjoys farm tours, local food/drink, and on-farm activities in addition to their short or long riding route. The ride is FairShare CSA Coalition's largest fundraiser and proceeds from the ride benefit our organization and the Partner Shares Program, a program to help connect low-income and underserved families with fresh, local produce. Participants who sign up for this race or volunteer for this race are assisting community members in accessing organic food grown by farmers in their community. You will find our route maps below. 23 Route through City of Verona (Note: “F” is our beginning and ending location at Badger Prairie County Park.) 24 Full route (Note: The symbols on the map indicate farm stops, the water stop, safety considerations, and prominent signage locations around busy roads.) 25 26 CITY OF VERONA RESOLUTION NO. A list of operators was obtained through Dane County, who licenses tourist rooming houses within Dane County on behalf of the State of Wisconsin. The County’s response showed there to be seven short-term rentals with an active license through Dane County. These operators were mailed a cover letter, application, and copy of the adopted short-term regulations on April 7, 2026. The City’s administrative intern has been helpful in following up with the operators through email and phone messages. The City previously reviewed and approved three license applications in June. Three additional applications have been received since that time and will be reviewed by the Public Safety and Welfare Committee on August 10. Of note, while the intent is for short-term rentals to be inspected by Dane County Health annually, the County is unable to provide annual inspections, but has verified no locations have open violations or have obstructed inspections from being performed. The City’s review of the applications can be found below. 136 Paoli Street The short-term rental is advertised through Airbnb and VRBO as “Paoli Place” and operated by Michelle Turner.
