CITY OF VERONA PUBLIC SAFETY AND WELFARE COMMITTEE MINUTES July 27, 2026 Council Chambers 1. Call to Order: Phil Hoechst called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m. 2. Roll Call: Phil Hoechst, Lachlann Swanson and Alejandro Hernandez were present. Also present: City Clerk Holly Licht, Police Lieutenant Scott Moen. 3. Public Comment: None 4. Approval of the minutes from the June 22, 2026 Public Safety and Welfare Committee meeting Motion by Swanson, seconded by Hoechst to approve the June 22, 2026 Public Safety and Welfare Committee meeting. Motion carried 3-0. 5. Discussion and Possible Action Re: Special Event Permit and Temporary Class “B” Fermented Malt Beverage License from Christian Rickman, Madison 56ers Soccer Club, for the Madison 56ers Fall Invitational on September 11-September 13, 2026 Motion by Swanson, seconded Hernandez to recommend that the Common Council Special Event Permit and Temporary Class “B” Fermented Malt Beverage License from Christian Rickman, Madison 56ers Soccer Club, for the Madison 56ers Fall Invitational on September 11-September 13, 2026. Moen noted that applicant has requested traffic control on Sunday, and they may not be able to do that with Iron Man also taking place. Motion carried 3-0. 6. Discussion and Possible Action Re: Special Event Permit Application from Rita Mortenson, VAHS, for the VAHS Homecoming Parade on October 2, 2026 Motion by Hoechst, seconded by Hernandez to approve a Special Event Permit Application from Rita Mortenson, VAHS, for the VAHS Homecoming Parade on October 2, 2026. Motion carried 3-0. 7. Discussion and Possible Action Re: Special Event Permit Application from Laurie Everitt, Puppets in the House, LLC, for the Community Day Festival on October 10, 2026 Motion by Hoechst, seconded by Swanson to approve a Special Event Permit Application from Laurie Everitt, Puppets in the House, LLC, for the Community Day Festival on October 10, 2026. Motion carried 3-0. 8. Discussion and Possible Action Re: Special Event Permit Application from Diana Bhatoya, Sugar Creek PTO, for the Sugar Creek Fun Run on October 3, 2026 Motion by Hoechst, seconded by Hernandez to approve a Special Event Permit Application from Diana Bhatoya, Sugar Creek PTO, for the Sugar Creek Fun Run on October 3, 2026.
