5. Discussion and Possible Action Re: Ardent Glen Park Development Plans
• Overview of park construction and process taken to this point provided by Dan Day and Matt
Brink.
o Park fees required by the development less than the amount spent on the park to date.
o Bathroom facility is currently being cleaned/maintained by Veridian until acceptance by the
City.
o Last component of pickleball and basketball court construction would place total
construction costs over the original anticipated amount.
• Additional construction density has been requested by Veridian, which would have an impact on
the required park fees.
• City imposed a requirement on Veridian to construct all courts prior to acceptance of the next
Developer Agreement with the City.
• Current plans are to construct a basketball court and four pickleball courts.
o This arrangement is also what was originally proposed and presented to the Parks
Commission in September 2024.
• Court construction is currently set to start the week of July 13 and last for eleven weeks (finished
end of September).
• Request by Veridian for the City to accept the bathroom facility and maintenance
responsibilities.
o Staff has compiled a punchlist of items that needs to be addressed prior to the acceptance
by the City.
o Suggestion to not accept the bathroom facility until the pickleball and basketball court
construction is completed and park improvements in their entirety is completed.
Motion by T. Powers, seconded by P. Hoechst to approve the park plans as presented and
acceptance of the bathroom facility upon completion/verification of required repair work by City
staff. Motion carried 4-1.
6. Discussion and Possible Action Re: Parks & Urban Forestry Director and Recreation Director Code Updates
• The existing code does not reflect the correct job responsibilities and titles for current staffing.
• Proposed changes would now make a clear distinction between the Parks & Urban Forestry
Director and the Recreation Director positions.
• This is a long overdue change as these positions have been in place for around 20 years.
Motion by T. Powers, seconded by P. Hoechst to approve the changes as presented. Motion
carried 5-0.
7. Discussion and Possible Action Re: Parks Ordinance Relating to Dogs
• Proposed ordinance changes would allow for service animals in Verona parks.
o Currently no dogs are allowed in Verona parks.
• Proposed definition of “service animal” debated.
• Questions regarding the issue of dogs in parks generally also discussed.
Item deferred to allow for time to address additional questions. No action taken at this time.
8. Updates from the departments
