Background : The original cabinets, countertop and sink in the break room are at end of life. There are
several areas of the cabinetry that have water damage from prior leaks and are starting to expand with the
composite veneer starting to come apart, causing structural integrity issues. The space needs in that area
have evolved in the 23+ years we have been in the building. The initial design for that space was adequate
for our staffing at the time (~75 total staff), but it is in need of an updated and more efficient design for
our current needs (114 total staff). Previously there was a desk area incorporated with the thought that
officers may complete work and use a computer in that space on break. With smart phone technology
there is no need for that work space and it would be more beneficial to have more space for those
preparing their meals during their break.
We have requested bids for durable formica style cabinets (to compliment the established décor) with
quartz counter tops including three undercabinet mounted microwaves, a new sink and new faucet. We
received three bids for the project. Cabinets MKE provided a quote for $19,682 which included solid wood
cabinets and countertops but did not include the sink, faucet, labor or installation of microwaves. Granite
and Marble by Design provided a quote of $13,493 which included cabinets with solid wood doors and
drawers with plywood casement, quartz countertops, but did not include the sink, faucet, labor or
installation of microwaves. Brew City Home Improvements provided a quote for $28,601.89 which
included durable formica style cabinets, quartz countertops, sink and faucet, labor and installation three
microwaves.
Based on the accuracy of the bid, not receiving actual quotes, but rough emailed estimates from the first
two businesses, and the timeframe needed to complete the project we are requesting approval to select
the bid from Brew City Home Improvements of $28,601.89 as the bid included everything we asked for
with less potential for additional and hidden costs.
