Elector/Public Comments Lisa Wegener, 245 W Park Dr, expressed her concerns about the extra-bright light shining across the lake. Kim Lishamer, 1816 Pheasant Ave, stated that if the Board creates an ordinance regulating bright lights for aesthetic purposes, it could be a slippery slope. Wendy Rohrs, 2925 E Lake Shore Dr, questioned late-night boats with lights, noting two men with nets along the sides and front of a boat, not appearing to be spear fishing. Officer Saunders advised calling the police to investigate. Bernard Klismet, 819 Bay View Ave, asked about the history of Bay View Channel, noting it has become quite shallow and needs dredging. Stated he had attempted to help by dredging himself, but the DNR intervened and stopped the work. Ron Mortensen, 3000 Lakeshore Way, felt that wake boats should be monitored, tracked, and possibly limited. Poetker responded that they are already being tracked and that the only limitation is through the number of parking stalls. Poetker noted that launch fees are among the lowest in the area and the Steering Council will be requesting an increase. John Wallner, 2920 Lakeshore Way, commented on the bright light, stating he lives next to it and that it is for security purposes. Acknowledged it may be an inconvenience but is glad it’s there. Sandra Wilhelm, 904 Shore Dr, had heard about the state banning certain activities and asked if fines could be structured in tiers, with higher penalties for repeat offenses. Poetker explained that the DNR sets the fine amounts. Tim Wetzel, 2332 Haerle Ave, spoke about men shining lights late at night, noting the glare reflects into houses. He contacted the DNR, who said it is legal unless an ordinance is enacted by the Village. Poetker believed they were spearing carp. Officer Saunders stated that both spearing fishing and lights are legal, but just netting is illegal. Brad Prischman, 932 Bay View Ave, lives on the channel and has a neighborhood letter addressing the concern, has copies for anyone interested. Bill Poetker or Tony Migon can provide the name of the company that previously dredged the channel. Nadine Fabish, 545 Storms Drive, acknowledged the safety concerns with the bright light, but also emphasized the importance of protecting aquatic life, noting that the current level of lighting is harmful. She suggested reducing the brightness and adjusting the direction of the lights as a solution. Rhet Suhre, 2023 E Lake Shore Drive, noted that his wife is a lighting designer and mentioned there are ways to mitigate the light impact. Susan Bradley, 1217 Valley View Rd, raised water quality concerns and asked about the ordinance regarding homeowners’ use of lawn chemicals. Poetker stated that phosphorus is prohibited and noted enforcement is handled by the DNR; everyone around the lake should be aware of this. Lake Protection & Rehabilitation District Commissioners’ Annual Meeting & Budget Hearing Minutes Saturday, August 2, 2025 Page 3 of 3 Brett Werzoel, 1229 E LSD, asked which invasive species are being treated around the lake, questioning if it’s only milfoil and what chemicals are used. Tony Migon responded they use Visillicor. He inquired about efforts to prevent starry stonewort, noting Lake Zurich recently found it. He warned that skiers with ladders could introduce it. Also mentioned he owns an aquatic harvesting company. Bill stated there is an invasive species procedure but acknowledged this issue is new and needs further review, noting the current system relies on an honor code. Steve Berg, Bay View Ave, owner of property on the channel expressed frustration over worsening shallow conditions and stormwater issues causing stagnant water and safety hazards. He noted a lack of village commitment to dredging, despite past cost estimates, and urged village action. ADJOURN Howard Skinner/Barb Andres motion to adjourn at 10:37 a.m. Motion carried.
