Review and discussion regarding copy and signage for the cemetery • The board discussed the need for clear signage and maintenance guidelines. Jim Baxa’s shared draft copy recommendations and suggested new signage be created and revisions made to the brochures to be consistent. • Edits to the draft: o CANDLES AND SOLAR LIGHTS – no changes o VASES – change 2nd bullet to “Vases may be placed at headstone/footstone” o FLAGS – no changes o PLANTS/TREES – change 2nd bullet to read “Suggested pot size: 6-12 inches”. Board to revisit language regarding the planting of trees, see below regarding landscaping and trees. o “EXCEPTIONS” to be renamed “DÉCOR OR DECORATIONS”  Potted plants or wreaths may be placed on graves for Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day or on an anniversary. Decorations will be removed after 1 week by Public Works.  All decorations must be removed by Thanksgiving. o PROHIBITED ITEMS section to be merged under section of “NOT PERMITTED ON GROUNDS” • Motion to update copy and mock up layout for review at next meeting. All in favor, motion carried. Update on Eagle Scout projects/other volunteer opportunities • Unfortunately, timing did not line up for potential Eagle Scout projects this summer, yet we identified that if we create “shelf ready” project scopes, then we might be able to expedite approvals to address timing gaps. • Board discussed that final signage could be advanced as a great project to create an enclosure/kiosk to hold a more permanent sign, seasonal notices and a brochure holder to be placed on the accessory building of the cemetery. • Board agreed to ideate other “shelf ready” projects for the future and scoped to be ready for Scout or volunteer opportunities. Initial starter ideas include bench construction, tree planting, cement bases or paths for future columbarium and accessory building refresh. Exploration of Landscape and Tree Planning • To bring cohesiveness and aesthetics to the cemetery, the Board discussed the idea of developing an overall landscape plan. • Baxa suggested identifying vacant plots to be reserved to support this plan. They could be earmarked for tree planting to provide shade and to mitigate issues with root growth impact on burials. • Various tree varieties were discussed and further work will be undertaken to identify optimal varieties for this application. • Bob Livingston participated in the discussion and provided insights on tree selection, the importance of controlling root growth, and optimal perimeter tree selection to support windbreak and shade and create identity for the cemetery. Discussion and exploration of fundraising opportunities for Columbarium • Bob Livingston shared work that was done around the Riviera in Lake Geneva with engraved bricks done by Gift Bricks out of Racine. He indicated that brick work could be done without engraved stones and then when donations for specific engraved bricks came in, the blanks could be pulled and replaced with engraved donated bricks. Blank bricks could be stored and when needed, Gift Bricks could receive and engrave for additional placement. • Board discussed starting with cleaning up building first (walnut shell blasting), replacing the door to secure the interior, repairing cement around perimeter then creating brick area that could then become space for engraved bricks. • In addition, the Board discussed placing the cement pads for columbariums to be ready when funding is available. Discussion of cemetery expansion needs • This topic was tabled for the next meeting. Close • Meeting adjourned 9:45am. Motion was made to schedule next meeting for August 27, 2026 at 8:00am – all in favor, motion carried.
