The next movie will be shown on August 14th and will feature Lilo & Stitch. Once again, this year, the concession stand will be open for movie goers. We have great sponsorship which allows us to bring this series to the public free of charge. Gnome Your Park was successful once again this year with 41 families participating. Capitol Improvement Projects: Munson Fencing has completed the fencing projects at Haupt Stasse Park and Kinderberg Park. With these repairs, we were also able to add an additional pickleball court to Alt Bauer Park. Northway completed constructing the shade structures on the dugouts. Firemen's Park Outdoor Pavilion is in the process of being repaired. Repairs include two-by-fours and three-by- six boards on all the columns throughout and placing metal plates at the bottom. This will take the pressure off the bottom area of the columns. Once those repairs are completed, a fresh coat of paint will be applied to the columns. There will be new LED lighting installed to replace the existing lighting in the facility. In 2027, some improvements that will be budgeted for are to redo the roof and paint/stain the boards underneath the roof to further extend the life of the shelter. The Splashpad was opened the Friday of Memorial Day weekend and is available daily. Music at the Pavilion opened up the season with the Judson Brown Band and Hot and Dirty Brass Band. That concert took place on June 4th with a good turnout. This event brought in beverage sales of a little over $4,000.00. The Glam Band is scheduled to perform on June 18th. This is a free concert series that is open to the public. The sponsorships for this event have exceeded what the cost will be to host the bands. The extra money that is generated for this event the department would like to use those funds to upgrade the entertainment for future concerts and put money towards park improvements for the concert series. Those details will need to be worked out with the new Finance Director. The Memorial Tree Plan. Director Standridge is working with the Public Works Page 5 of 22 Page 4 Department and Wachtel Tree Service to promote our Parks and Recreation Memorial Tree Plan. This plan is part of the Village Forestry Tree Plan, and we would like it to be implemented by this falls planting season. The trees will be provided by Wendland Landscaping Services and Nursery. Wendland will supply the tree and will also take on the task of digging a hole, restoring the area and taking care of the tree. This service will all be included in the price of the tree. The bench program that was once offered has been retired due to the cost of the benches. This program may be revisited after discussions with DPW in 2027. Fourth of July Celebration. Director Standridge gave an update on the upcoming festivities. The parade will begin at 11:00am. Once the parade has concluded, parade goers and the public will be welcomed into Firemen's Park with a kickball tournament, games for the kids, bubbles, face painters, balloon and tattoo artists, bounce houses and dunk your favorite Village trustee or staff member. Fall Page 17 of 22 BUSINESS OF THE PARK & RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING DATE: July 29, 2026 PLACEMENT: Action Item ITEM TITLE: Friends of Old Falls Village Park - Requesting to bring war re- enactments to Firemen's Park & Dheinsville Park - (DISCUSSION / ACTION) SUBMITTED BY: SUMMARY EXPLANATION: ATTACHMENT: STAFF RECOMMENDATION: ACTION BY COMMITTEE: Page 18 of 22 Directors Report: The 4th of July marked the 250th celebration of the nation. The event was a success. The couple hours of rain did not dampen the spirits of the community who attended the events. No events on the 4th were cancelled or changed. The Germantown Chamber of Commerce parade was a big hit as citizens lined up the streets from Pilgrim Road all the way up Park Avenue. Many of the spectators that watched the parade came to Firemen’s Park after the parade and participated in the many events that were held all afternoon. Citizens enjoyed the wide variety of food vendors, including the American Legion. All the food vendors said they had a successful day and would like to come back for future celebrations. The Farmers Market, normally held at Village Hall parking lot, had many vendors participating in the park and Recreation 4th of July Market. Vendors reported a successful showing and selling their goods. The foam party and giant bubble party were successful and enjoyed by the children that attended. During the rain showers, the Firemen’s outdoor picnic shelter was packed with children waiting for their turn to have painted tattoos, their faces painted or receive a ballon animal. The late afternoon weather turned out beautiful and many people who left the park because of the rain came back to listen to Bootjack Road, a popular local band. The evening fireworks were spectacular as usual with thousands of residents sitting in lawn chairs and on blankets watching the show. Even with the rain, this was possibly the most attended 4th of July activities in recent history. A big shout out to our local celebrities, including Village President Soderberg, who were dunked in the dunk tank for a good cause. The dunk tank raised money for the Friends of Germantown K-9. A special thanks to Jan Miller and Tom Barney for co-chairing this event, Germantown Park and Recreation Department for helping plan the event, and Public Works for all the preparation they put into making sure the park was cleaned and prepared for the large crowds. A big thank you to the Germantown Police and Fire Departments for making sure this event was safe and traffic was handled with no incidents. This was a true team effort. This year I was able to allow all staff to enjoy the three-day weekend. I worked the entire three days. In the future staff will have no issue helping to prepare for the event but wish to have the actual day off without having to work on the event. Taste of Germantown/Kids Klub Carnival This event was held last night at Fireman Park. In my opinion this was the largest turnout I have witnessed in my five years of being part of the Kids Klub carnival. The weather was perfect for such an event. I think part of the success was that Kiwanis, who is the main sponsor for this event, added several more food vendors, as well as allowing Farmers Market vendors to set up. Six vendors took advantage of the invitation, and I believe all six had a successful evening. The kids Klub carnival sold approximately $5000 in tickets for the evening. This was up approx.. 11% more than last year. Page 19 of 22 They had 8 large bouncy houses and two small bouncy houses for young kids, and fourteen different stations with carnival type activities. The children got a punch pass for each activity they entered, where they could put in a jar for the prize they wish to draw for. Old Falls Village Park This news bulletin was sent out by Nancy Greifenhage, Executive Director and may explain why they are looking for a new venue for their re-enactments. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Friends of Old Falls Village Looks Toward the Future Friends of Old Falls Village acknowledges the recent announcement that the Menomonee Falls Historical Society is in discussions regarding the possible purchase of Old Falls Village Park. We understand that this development brings questions, and we want to assure our supporters, volunteers, visitors, and community partners that Friends of Old Falls Village is continuing and actively preparing for the future. For the past several years, our volunteers have built one of southeastern Wisconsin’s premier living history organizations through educational programs, historical reenactments, family events, Veterans programs, music, and community partnerships. Our mission to preserve, share, and bring history to life remains unchanged, and our commitment to serving the Menomonee Falls community and southeastern Wisconsin is as strong as ever. We also want to reassure the public that our three remaining 2026 events will be held as planned at Old Falls Village. That includes our upcoming 1960s Era Vietnam Living History Reenactment, which remains on the schedule for August 1 and 2, and will continue to offer meaningful opportunities for education, remembrance, and community engagement. Looking ahead, our Board of Directors has already begun evaluating several promising sites for a future location where our events and mission can continue in 2027 and beyond. While a final location has not yet been selected, we are encouraged by the opportunities ahead and remain focused on building a strong and sustainable future for the organization. As part of this next chapter, we also anticipate introducing a new name and brand that better reflect our future direction and long-term mission. Additional updates will be shared in the coming weeks regarding our future location, new identity, upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and ways supporters can remain involved. Most importantly, the Friends of Old Falls Village are not going away. We are moving forward with strength, clarity, and purpose. Our work will continue. Our mission will continue. And our unwavering dedication to preserving living history, educating the public, Page 20 of 22 and serving our community will continue with even greater determination than before. We are still here, still committed, and still driven to keep history alive.
