We’re still waiting to hear on the Department of Admin $2 million grant. Wohlt grant has a fall timeline for when they accept applications. ● Broadband: Brightspeed & Bertram both received broadband grants for Caledonia in the BEAD grant selection. This broadband will cover the entire area of Caledonia and bring competition to areas of Caledonia. Brightspeed will have 1 Gbps speeds in the areas not covered by Spectrum. Bertram would overlay cable to provide competition in the areas currently covered by Spectrum. Installation timeline is unknown. They have 4 years to complete the grant. They are planning to hit all addresses in the Town even though some may not be on the BEAD grant list. ● The 2026 budget will need to be revised as we’ve learned about the Kanaman bridge, Fire department EMS truck purchase, and our share of the cost of outdoor maintenance equipment. There will be a special meeting to discuss this. ● Rawhide has made very good progress on reducing police calls and kids off campus issues. Rawhide is also now reimbursing the Sheriff’s Department for calls to the facility to reduce the impact on local property taxes. ● Dale Fire and Rescue ○ Requested a pond fire hydrant at the Gruetzmacher Park pond. We said they would need to find funding. ○ Will do driveway inspection in 2026 to advise homeowners of action needed to ensure access for emergency equipment. It is the homeowners responsibility to ensure that emergency vehicles can access their property. ● Spring weight limits are in effect. Signs are on all town roads. ● Maintenance and Cleaning person hiring: positions were posted, we have plentiful candidates, and will begin interviewing next week. Hopefully offers will be made by the end of March ● Country Visions property revaluation was missed after the construction of the new fertilizer plant. It is now corrected and Country Visions has been notified that they will be billed for 2025 and 2026. We don’t know the impact to our tax revenue yet, but it should be significant. ● KerberRose completed the 2025 full year annual audit and issued the preliminary findings: our books are in good control and compliant with GAAP rules. Our finances are more complicated than comparable towns due to grants, donations, alternative revenue sources, and projects like Gruetzmacher Park. There were no irregularities, Clerk Snyder is capable and easy to work with, and the town is one of the best, if not the best, township for accounting and financial practices that our accountant works with.
