Communications Center Report
Public Safety Committee
April 2, 2026
Sawyer County Communications Center
• National Telecommunicators Week is April 12-18, 2026
o A week designated annually during the second week of April to honor public
safety telecommunicators for their commitment, service, and sacrifice.
o We would like to thank all the dispatchers of Sawyer County, past and present, for
their dedication to serving Sawyer County. You are the darkness in the light, and
calm voice in the storm. Thank you for all you do, each and every day!
• Sawyer County would like to formally announce Text-to-911.
o Text-to-911 comes to Sawyer County after a few years of enhancing and
improving the way Sawyer County receives calls for service, including emergent
911 and non-emergent calls to the communications center. With the assistance of
grant funding, these advancements were made possible
o What is Text-to-911?
Text-to-911 is a capability for PSAPs (Public Safety Answering
Points/Communication Centers) to be able to receive text messages
directly to 911, when they cannot safely make a voice call. The dispatchers
are able to send, receive, and respond quickly and efficiently to a text
message requesting emergency assistance.
o How do I use Text-to-911?
To use Text-to-911, simply enter “911” in the phone number field, and in
the body of the message, enter your emergency situation details. These
details include your emergency, a location, and any other details readily
available. A trained emergency dispatcher will send you a reply to gather
critical information for your emergency. They will also provide necessary
instructions and send the appropriate responders.

Data Notes
There are currently some data mapping inconsistencies that are being actively worked on.
Our reporting system is address-driven and assigns locations based on postal designation, which
can occasionally result in calls being attributed to the wrong township. The primary issue
identified at this time involves Bass Lake (Sawyer County), where some calls are being
incorrectly mapped under the Town of Hayward.
This is a known issue and is in the process of being corrected. The impact is limited and does not
significantly affect overall trends, but it may slightly underrepresent Bass Lake while slightly
inflating Hayward totals.
Call Type Overview (Dispatch Complaints)
Calls for service during this reporting period were primarily related to:
• Medical emergencies (chest pain, breathing problems, altered mental status)
• Falls and lift assists
• General illness and weakness
• Traumatic injuries
• Cardiac-related complaints
• Diabetic emergencies
• Welfare checks and unknown problems
A significant portion of call volume continues to be driven by lower-acuity medical complaints
and lift assists, which remains consistent with rural EMS trends.
