d. APPEALS
1. A Public Hearing in the Town of Hayward. APP #26-001 against VAR #25-007
(Larry & Tammie Johnson), Appeal of decision made by the Sawyer County
Zoning Administrator. Part of the SE ¼ of the NW ¼ & Part of the SW ¼ of the SE
¼, S26, T41N, R09W; Lot 1 CSM 9/381 #2042; Tax ID #12822; Parcel #010-941-
26-2402; 1.25 total acres; Zoned Residential One (R-1). Application was for an
enclosure of an 8’ x 26’ open lean-to area located 27’ at the closest point to the
high-water mark of Lake Hayward. This 8’ x 26’ area is on an existing 34’ x 26’
primary structure. With approval of proposed variance, the applicant would then
rebuild this existing primary structure of a 26’ x 42’ into the existing footprint and
vertical expansion. With approval of Variance the other existing 537’ sq. ft. cabin
would be removed. Variance requested as Sawyer County Code of Ordinances -
Appendix B - Section 6.1 would require prior granting of a variance for any new
structure located closer than 75’ to the high-water mark. Since this open lean-to
area is proposed to change the enclosed habitable area. This was denied at the
Sawyer County Board of Appeals meeting on December 16, 2025.
