Town of Remington Special Meeting January 29, 2024 Purpose: To discuss the proposed addition to the Remington Volunteer Fire Department facility. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm by Chairman Plucinski Presentation was given by Chief Brockman and Jan Brockman with details regarding the size and potential cost of the proposed addition. Size was proposed to be 32 X 36 with an estimated cost of approximately $116,473.50 allowing for 10% cost increase over 2023 estimates. Estimates are not official but are for planning purposes only. Addition would include, 2 new bays, a bathroom facility with shower, a laundry facility and holding tanks for a sanitary system. A slide show was presented with a preliminary rendering of what the building may look like. Presented as phase one of a multiple phase project, including a new Town Garage facility as phase two and a new Town Hall as phase three. Financing: A 50/50 grant opportunity is available from the State of Wisconsin, deadline to apply is January 31, 2024. Will apply for a $75,000 grant. The other $75,000 would come from the following sources. Fire Department Checking: $25,000 Fire Department Savings: $2,000 Town Hall Contingency Fund: Remainder of 2022 & 2023 April Pilt Payment $47,000 Town Hall Contingency Fund: $1000 from remaining ARPA funds Total: $75,000 Total potential funding $150,000 There are other grants available, will explore those as well. Grants are not guaranteed, and a loan may be necessary to pay for this project if we don’t get grant money. There was more discussion regarding potential funding sources and long term and possible emergency needs of the town. The 2024 budget includes a $15,000 contingency fund as a start toward saving for some of those unexpected expenses. A motion was made by Leroy Dieckhoff to allow the town board to assist Jan with the grant application guaranteeing the $75,000 as collateral for the application, there was a second. Jan Brockman asked to amend that motion to say that the Town of Remington will construct an addition to the existing fire department to provide the decontamination.
