The Brush Truck is complete, we took out a 10-year loan for $26,000.00 and paid it off in 2023. 48 % of the
cost of the brush truck was paid for by fundraising, 33% by grant money, 10 % by donations and 9% by the
Town of Remington. A year ago, Camp Victory donated a Jaws of Life, about a $20,000.00 value, the
Capabilities of the fire department has increased in the last 7 ½ years. There are currently 10 members. 3 are
women. Brat fry will be May 26th Various raffles including a gun and Milwaukee tool set. Challenges in the
future, decontamination. Currently using wet wipes and towels. Would be nice to have running water, a
restroom and a decontamination area. Inflationary pressure in the last several years has been a problem.
Testing costs have increased as well as turnout gear. Budget has not increased in several years. The fire
department is doing very well.
Questions were raised about what a fair budget might be and the answer by Chief Brockman was estimated at
$13,000.
Fire Department discussion continued: K. Plucinski explained what the $26,453.49 May Pilt payment is. It is
money we get from the state in lieu of taxes on the state lands in our township. We are supposed to get this
payment each year. The 2022 payment is set aside in the Town Hall Fund with another payment expected in
May 2023. Joann Wilkinson discussed the bathroom, decontamination station and hot running water. Mary
Mckeel made a motion to set aside the May Pilt dollars for a future addition to the fire department there was
a second. A vote of the town electors was taken. Yay = 10 Nay =6. The board did not make a final decision on
this. Kathy Plucinski pointed out that the board has been doing things to prepare for a potential building
project in the area of the fire department. There is running water in the building, it is just not heated at the
time. The soil test has been done and it was advised that 3 - 1,300 gallon holding tanks should be sufficient for
any future buildings. The site has been surveyed as well. Denise Ellis wanted it to be noted on record that the
Bathroom for the fire department has been requested for a number of years. Discussion about mound system
versus holding tanks ensued. Travis Simonson explained we were advised that because of the soil disruption in
that area we cannot install a mound system there and will have to go with holding tanks.
Wood County Highway Department 50/50: A motion was made by M. Mckeel to set aside $4,000.00 a
second was made by D. Ellis.
Audit: Denise Ellis raised the question of when the last time an audit was done. Discussion ensued and it was
determined that it has been quite a number or years since one has been done. Denise made a motion to have
a legitimate audit of the town’s books 2nd by Leroy Dieckhoff. Mary Mckeel stated by law the town is not
required to have an audit if the Clerk and Treasurer positions are separate. There are checks and balances and
the Town Board is responsible for any discrepancies, and it is up to the Town Board to take on any audits they
require. Both the Clerk and Treasurer’s computers are backed up onto an external hard drive. It will be stored
in the safe in the Town Hall. A vote was taken by the town electors on the audit Yay=11 Nay = 7. There was no
final decision by the town board. The Clerk will contact an auditing firm. Mary Mckeel asked how many years
we are looking for. Arnie Ellis expressed feelings that it would not be beneficial to do all years.
Town Board Pay is set by the electors. J. Wilkinson asked, “how can the town board decide to give pay to the
clerk for working the elections? State Statute 60.33 subsection 4 states Clerk cannot make an hourly wage to
work the elections. K. Plucinski said state statues say no we can not pay extra for the clerk to work the
elections. T. Simonson asked if there was a motion and a second? The answer was yes. K. Plucinski rescinded
the motion to pay the clerk for Election work. A. Ellis 2nd.
